The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Episode 8 Recap – The Seven Stages

Vanya got arrested for what she did to the state troopers. Sissy and Harlan were released back to Carl’s custody. The FBI took over Vanya’s case as they thought she was a communist threat to the country. Vanya didn’t know that she could speak Russian and because she had a Russian name the FBI suspected she was Russian. Vanya accidentally answered in Russian which grew their suspicion further. To make matters worse, Vanya didn’t remember anything so she couldn’t answer the questions truthfully. Vanya tried to use her powers to break free but the FBI were prepared for retaliation. They used chloroform on her to knock her out before she could unleash her power.

Five no longer cared about his siblings. All his efforts were wasted and he wasn’t happy about it. Luther wants to locate the rest of their siblings as he thinks something happened to them. Five left them in the alleyway and told them that it’s everybody for themselves. Luther told Klaus to find the others while he handled Five. Klaus left to find their siblings while Luther tried to convince Five to look for another way. Five has another plan but he didn’t like it. Luther asks him what his plan was but he didn’t want to tell Luther. Five went back to Elliott’s apartment and locked himself in the bathroom.

Klaus went to Allison first to check on her. Ray is worried about them because they just killed a vacuum salesman. He doesn’t know that The Swedes were assassins sent to kill everyone else. Meanwhile, the last remaining Swede contemplates on what he did to his own brother. He still couldn’t accept that he strangled him to death.  He was about to chop his own arm off when he saw the fake canister in the trash bin. It was the same canister that The Handler made in her hotel room. He smelled Lavender off the canister which was the same perfume that The Handler used when she offered her proposal. He knew that The Handler tricked them and he wasn’t going to accept that.

Lila protests that The Handler told her that she could pick her own team members. She did tell her that but she didn’t mean Diego. Lila tells her that not everyone at The Commission likes her and they definitely need support in order to keep their position in power. The Handler understood Lila’s point and Diego told her that he doesn’t belong to anybody so she finally agrees and allows Lila to take Diego as her companion. She tells Lila that if Diego poses as a threat she needs to kill him personally. Lila agrees and joyfully accepts the deal. Meanwhile, Grace went to Reginald’s office to look for clues regarding JFK’s assassination. She didn’t find anything at first but she found a secret room which gave her all the answers.

Grace was going through the files when Reginald arrived. She told Reginald that Diego filled her in on his plot to assassinate the president. Grace wouldn’t take Diego’s word but she saw the files and she’s starting to doubt Reginald. He couldn’t give a straight answer and asks Grace to just trust him. Grace told Reginald that she wants to share her life with him but she can’t wait for him forever. Grace left as Reginald felt anger and heartbreak at the same time.

Luther wakes up and sees Five preparing himself for something big. Five explains his big plans to Luther and he no longer seems confident about it. Five wants to find his older self because he’s the one sent by The Commission to assassinate JFK. Five wants to find his old self and take his briefcase so that they would be able to make their way back to 2019. He needs Luther to be his spotter to ensure that their mission would be successful no matter what happens. Luther agrees to help Five to save their family and they went to the parade to look for his older self.

Carl receives a call from his brother telling him that Vanya is being held by the FBI under suspicion of being KGB. Sissy couldn’t believe it but Carl was already brainwashing her into believing and she didn’t even know about it. Meanwhile, Vanya is being held by the FBI against her will. They electrocuted her and drop Lysergic Acid on her eyes. Somehow the torture was slowly unlocking her memories.

Five enters a bar with Luther and they see his old self. Five tells Luther that the best way for their plan to work is to just go talk with his old self. Five wanted to lead the charge but Luther thinks he’s going to freak himself out so he volunteered to break the ice first. Luther speaks to old Five and he starts reaching for his briefcase. He couldn’t believe that Luther is talking to him. Luther tells old Five not to freak out as he introduced his younger self to him. Five came out of the shadows and it was a total shocker for his old self. He froze on the spot, unable to say anything as he saw his younger self in the flesh.

Lila brings Diego to new recruit orientation for The Commission. He really wants to leave but Lila tells him that she needs things to work out so she doesn’t want Diego to mess things up. Diego watches the opening of the orientation but he sees the infinite switchboard and the video states that you could see the entire timeline via the switchboards. Diego gets up and leaves to find the switchboard room so that he could leave find a way to leave or at least help his family out.

Luther and the two Five’s sit down to talk about business. Five offers himself the correct equation in order to jump to the future and keep his old self from going back to his younger body. In exchange for the correct equation, they want the briefcase that he’s holding. The old Five couldn’t give a definite answer immediately. He tells them that he needs to take a piss first. Old Five leaves the table with his briefcase and heads to the bathroom. Luther thinks that the talk went well but Five doesn’t trust his older self.

Diego roamed around the Commission in search for the switchboard room. He finds the correct room but he doesn’t know how to operate the switchboards. Diego took out his knife and nearly kills Herb as he enters the room. Herb agrees to help Diego and he works on the switchboard to check November 22, 1963. They went through the footage and saw that JFK wasn’t assassinated. The FBI building exploded in the background and JFK was rushed out of the parade in a hurry. Herb changes the view on the footage and they saw Vanya floating out of the FBI building. Because of the explosion, Vanya accidentally causes nuclear war between USSR and USA causing the apocalypse.

Diego realizes that Vanya is the bomb, and she will always be the bomb. Diego needs to go back to Dallas 1963 to stop Vanya so Herb calls out a favor from his friends. They did everything they could to get Diego a briefcase in order to get his ass back to 1963. Meanwhile, Luther sees old Five holding on to the prosthetic eye that belonged to Harold. Luther tells old Five that Vanya causes the apocalypse in 2019 because she was angry at them for how they treated her when they were young. He proposes a new plan which was much simpler than Five’s plan. He tells Luther that they could just jump to 2019 and make friends with Vanya and save the world in the process. Luther liked old Five’s plan better but they need to kill young Five first which didn’t sit well with Luther.

Old Five tells Luther that his younger version is already experiencing paradox psychosis which means they need to put him out of his misery. Luther agrees and they go back to the table to tell young Five about the deal. Meanwhile, Vanya is slowly processing her memories. She was eating dinner with her family and they were eating brains. Reginald told Vanya that eating the brain would help her remember. Vanya hesitated at first but she gave in. She took one bite from the brain and the memories came rushing in. The FBI agent didn’t know what to do with her because she wasn’t responding so he cranked up the electrocution which caused Vanya and Harlan to feel the pain at the same time.

Allison and Ray were disposing of the Swede in their house when Herb and Diego arrive. Diego explains that they need to find Vanya and rescue her before she causes another apocalypse. Diego explains that Vanya blew up the FBI building in Dallas which causes the US government to blame Russia. They exchange blows until the war reaches Nuclear and eventually destroys the world. Ray couldn’t process all the information so Allison helps him a bit. Allison tells Raymond that she loves him and leaves with Diego and Klaus to save the world.

Lila goes back to the recruitment office but she didn’t find Diego there. She asks the proctor if she saw Diego but she didn’t have any clue. Lila set out to look for Diego but she didn’t know that he already went back to 1963. Allison, Diego, and Klaus, arrive at the FBI building and begin their search for Vanya. Vanya took another bite from the brain that Reginald was offering her and all her memories returned. The FBI agent decided to put the electrocution on full blast but that did nothing to Vanya.

Klaus, Allison, and Diego make it to the top floor just as Vanya regained her memories. She let out a huge burst of energy that made it impossible for the normal humans to survive. Klaus asks Allison and Diego who they were saving Vanya from. They both answered that they were saving her from the FBI however Vanya already killed all of the FBI agents. Allison and Diego realized that they were up against a different Vanya already.
