After years in Development Hell, the Sandman adaptation is finally here, and it will be making its premiere on Netflix. Just in, we now have a release date, and it comes with a trailer giving us a better look at Tom Sturridge’s Dream.

Here’s the official description:
There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.
As the series suggests, the world of Sandman is pretty expansive, so it’s kind of odd that the trailer should only feature so much of Morpheus. I guess this is just the date announcement, and we could be getting a look at more of the characters in a different trailer that will drop before the August premiere.
With the way that the comics have been so trippy, there has been a lot of doubt on whether the show can properly capture the mood of the comics. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens when the series premieres.
The Sandman premieres on Netflix on Aug. 5.
