5 Things You Have to Know About 'The Sandlot’ Movie

After 25 years, Smalls, Ham, Squints, DeNunez, Yeah-Yeah, Timmy, Bertram and Repeat back together. The gang reunited on the Today Show and talked about how much the film changed their lives. Writer and director David Mickey Evans joined in on the fun. The only member missing was Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez. To honor the reuniting of the most iconic baseball team, here’s a list of things you might not know about “The Sandlot.”

1. They inspired some of baseball’s greatest and one of basketball’s

“Sandlot” is so iconic that the young baseball team inspired some of baseball’s greatest players. The Today Show showed clips of the New York Yankees screaming quotes from the film. Even NBA superstar Kevin Durant is in love with the movie. He has Ham as his profile picture on Twitter.

2. The Sandlot cast’s favorite memory was made offset

You’d think that the pool scene would be one for the books. But the cast didn’t like it because it was freezing. Instead, the gang’s favorite memory is leaving the set and sneaking into the production of Basic Instinct.

3. They let their kids watch the film

25 years later, and “The Sandlot” is still moving hearts. Patrick Renna, who everyone knows as Ham, shared a photo on Instagram where he’s holding his baby and “The Sandlot” is on the TV. “I showed him the movie for the first time and, uh, he’s really big on ‘Moana,’” he jokes.

4. Two real-life brothers played Benny

Mike Vitar’s younger brother, Pablo played the younger Benny, and older Benny was, of course, played by Mike.

5. Summer shooting

The whole film took a little bit over a month to shoot. 42 days, to be exact. “The film was made with the same amount of love the people have for it, and it was the greatest summer of our lives,” Writer and director David Mickey Evans said.
