‘The Royals’ Season 4, Episode 5 ‘There’s Daggers In Men’s Smiles’ Recap: Family Is Everything [SPOILERS]

Last week, “The Royals” left us with Willow (Genevieve Gaunt) wanting back on the list, Liam (William Moseley) exposed, JaspeNor out in the open, and Robert (Max Brown) building his hero status for the people. This week, Count Bellagio is back in Jasper’s (Tom Austen) life, Willow is more than just on the list and Liam is not giving up on Kathryn (Christina Wolfe).

King Robert will lead them out of the darkness

With all that’s happening, it’s hard to tell the current King of England genuinely cares about the people or is just really really shady.

On the one hand, he was giving out water bottles to the people of his kingdom because of the heatwave. Then on the other, he outed Parliament for neglecting the needs of the people.

According to Willow, ever since his speech on the bridge, the people loved him. Things like “King Robert, a true British hero,” and “He will lead us out of the darkness,” flooded the Internet.

But behind closed doors and within the palace walls, there’s more than meets the eye with King Robert. He single-handedly shut down Parliament and blackmailed Colin Yorke, Parliament’s “Golden Boy” into loyalty. This bold move just made him the sole holder of power in the country. Things like this make it seems like his heroic image is just a facade and step for political reasons.

Jasper has serious daddy issues

Jasper Frost isn’t too happy that his estranged father (Richard Brake) is back in his life. To top off his already flaming anger, Jasper has to treat his dad as Count Bellagio, the Duchess new lover.

The only other person who knows of The Count’s true identity is Len, who just laughed and offered her boyfriend a joint. Being the great girlfriend that she is, she’s starting to get close to the older Frost, asking about Jasper’s childhood and the father teaching her how to pick a lock. Jasper doesn’t like this one bit. But his father does seem concerned about his son and looks like he wants to help. But then again, he is a conman.

Len, modern day Robin Hood

With Jasper’s dad in the palace, the Princess has picked up a thing or two. For one, Len got the idea to give away palace belongings to help those in need.

When Len and Jasper caught The Count stealing hard silver candle holders, she found out from him that they could get something pretty hefty from the local pawn shop. So, Len played Robin Hood and left those holders on the doorstep of a lonely woman whose cat needs surgery.

But she didn’t stop there. Later that night, Len lied to Jasper about her plans. He saw her sneaking out, not knowing what she was going to do. This will probably leave their relationship on a rocky path.

Helena’s crisis

Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) isn’t too pleased with stepping down from the throne. She is disgusted with the thought of being a dowager and a grandmother. But Rachel, her trusted assistant, had the brilliant idea of letting off a little steam with a masquerade party. Not the classy kind of ball gowns and classical music. No, Rachel and the Queen partied all night at a club. Helena wasn’t afraid to have fun with her face hidden with a mask.

Unfortunately, a drunken night out meant a drunken mistake for the Queen. She woke up with Sebastian by her side in bed, naked and still asleep.

“The Royals” family back together, minus Cyrus

Liam goes back to Kathryn’s pub after what happened with Greta. Being in South London where the power was still out, it was dark, and Kathryn thought Liam was some criminal and she tried to whack him with a paddle. After some explaining, Liam was there to check on her family because he knew Kathryn was out of the country.

But Kathryn got on the first plane back when her father didn’t answer the phone. He’s been missing since the blackout. Liam, still harboring feelings for Kathryn, did everything in his power to look for her dad. They even went to the morgue where James Hill (Rocky Marshall) tracked down a John Doe with a description matching Kathryn’s father.

Fortunately, it wasn’t him. They got back to the pub, where Kathryn’s father is alive and well. He was helping people who needed it but was harboring negative feelings for the Henstridge brothers for breaking his daughter’s heart.

When the Prince got back to palace, he and Cyrus (Jake Maskall) had a serious talk. With a clear mind, he told his uncle to stop their vendetta against Robert. He believes that the best thing to do to honor his father and brother.

He even admitted to feeling hatred for his brother because of the whole Kathryn situation. But Cyrus stood his ground and continued to put dirt on the King’s name, still blaming him for King Simon’s death. The unfixed whole in the door gave Robert the chance to hear their conversation.

Cyrus’ treacherous words got him banished from the country, and Liam’s words of acceptance built the road to reconciliation. Robert even gave them his blessing so they could put their feud behind them.

Robert’s other side: matters of the heart

Aside from politics and ruling a country, Robert has some personal issues to handle. For one, he still needs to find a bride. With Willow back on top of his list, his search could soon be over. It seems, however, things are more than just politics. Willow seems to be having feelings for the King and vice versa.

But things turned a little more complicated when Cassandra (Emily Barber), one of the top contenders to be the future Queen of England, asked Willow for help with Robert. Poor, awkward Willow did not know how to break the news to her that she’s more than just his assistant. She just left it as is, Cassandra’s date with Robert was postponed. So later, Robert received a somewhat provocative call from Cassandra.

In the middle of the conversation, Willow’s speech about how great of a man the King is. He terminated his relationship with Cassandra with the words, “Cassandra, sorry our date was postponed. It should have been canceled. Goodbye now.”

Robert then got to talk to Willow. He opened up about wanting more than marrying for politics. Because of her, he started to hope again. Knowing how impulsive he is, he shocked and melted the viewers’ hearts with the words, “Will you marry me?” Now, we will have to wait a whole week for Willow’s response.

“The Royals” continues next Sunday, April 15th, with “My News Shall Be the Fruit to That Great Feast” at 10/9c on E!
