The Rock Allegedly Forced WB to Bring Back Henry Cavill’s Superman

It’s been half a decade since Henry Cavill worked on a Superman project, but there are still talks that he’s still connected to the role. Now it seems that he could be coming back to the big screen, and we have the Rock to thank.

According to the Marvelvision podcast (via The Direct), insider David Faraci explained that the Rock essentially stiff-armed WB into bringing back Cavill. He says:

“I got some more information about this. It’s not, like, specific. It’s all behind-the-scenes stuff that I thought was kind of fascinating, which is that the reason why Henry Cavill has returned as Superman in Black Adam is because The Rock demanded it. Like, he went hard, full-court press on Warner Bros. and made them go to Henry Cavill and they had to sign a new deal with Henry Cavill, including saying they were gonna develop a new Superman movie. And it was all because The Rock insisted.” 

Besides Cavill said to be making a cameo in Black Adam, it’s also said that WB is now currently developing a new Superman movie with Cavill. We don’t know what it could be about, but it’s said that The Flash will be responsible for some huge upheaval of the established DCEU.

Following the news cycle, news about Cavill coming back as Superman comes out every few months, so I’m going to take this rumor with a grain of salt. Until now, the DCEU still has no clear direction, and after all the major projects that got cancelled—including Batgirl—I think it’s just best to wait and see what happens.

Black Adam is set to come to theaters on Oct. 21.
