'The Purge' Season 1, Episode 5 'Rise Up' Recap: Revolt

Entering the lair of the enemy is risky, but being trapped in it is far worse. As this chapter of The Purge takes us to the annual Purge’s ultimate form, the seemingly unrelated protagonists try to survive. Regret rushes through the thoughts of one as the other treads into the unknown. While being in the heart of evil, a couple receives help from the likeliest stranger.

In this week’s episode of The Purge, Jane (Amanda Warren) desperately heads to David Ryker’s (William Baldwin) residence. Meanwhile, Miguel (Gabriel Chavarria) finally reaches the Carnival of Flesh. Back in the Stanton Mansion, Catalina (Paulina Gálvez) saves Jenna (Hannah Emily Anderson) and Rick (Colin Woodell).

Remorseful

After witnessing the Matron Sisters give an abusive man their brand of Purge Justice, Jane decided to go on her way. Since Jane has not received news about her contract with Bracka (Azmarie Livingston), she made her mind up to prevent David’s assassination. Before leaving her car, Jane gets a call from her mother who brings her to tears. In the end, she stood at David’s front door, opening by itself.

While Jenna faced a dilemma, Rick witnessed the first part of Albert Stanton’s (Reed Diamond) Purge festivities. Albert sent him to look for Jenna, so he finds her knocking outside Lila’s (Lili Simmons) door. Suddenly, they hear gunshots coming from the outside. Moments later, they rushed to the wine cellar, just as Catalina told them to. Luckily, the couple made it out of the mansion just as an anti-NFFA flag dangled on the mansion’s veranda.

The episode revealed much of Miguel (Gabriel Chavarria) and Penelope’s (Jessica Garza) childhood. Also, it introduced Henry (Dylan Arnold), Penelope’s drug-addicted ex-boyfriend. When Miguel finally reached the carnival, he turned on Rex (Christopher Berry) whom he sold to the auctioneers. However, the staff realizes that they have a  security breach when a security guard recognizes Rex. Just as Miguel finally found Penelope, carnival security takes him down and sell him to Henry as well.

Melee

While driving through the street, Joe (Lee Tergesen), the masked man, finds a group of people beating a man sprawled on the floor. The group wore masks which concealed their faces, and they held melee weapons. Joe went out of his truck with a police baton, giving them a seemingly fair fight.

The Purge continues on Tuesday, October 9th, with ‘The Forgotten’ at 10/9c on the USA Network.
