'The Passage' Season 1, Episode 7 'You Are Like The Sun' Recap: Release

The Passage happens differently among the Virals, but they all end up the same. However, when a Viral escapes Project NOAH, fending off for himself, the other Virals start to lose hope. When the situation finally changes, so does the Project’s entire management. Meanwhile, the truth behind a tragedy from years past resurfaces in the face of certain death.

In this week’s episode of The Passage, Brad Wolgast (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) and Lila Kyle (Emanuelle Chiriqui) flee from their executioners. Meanwhile, Dr. Major Nichole Sykes (Caroline Chikezie) and Dr. Jonas Lear (Ian Cusick) closely monitor Elizabeth Lear’s (Jennifer Ferrin) deteriorating condition. As Clark Richards (Vincent Piazza) searches for Brad and Lila, Anthony Carter (McKinley Belcher III) prepares Amy Bellafonte (Saniyya Sidney) to face Tim Fanning (Jamie McShane).

Change of Guard

When the escaped Viral situation reaches the Secretary of Defense (Bill Winkler), Project NOAH’s management now became Director Horace Guilder’s (James Le Gros) responsibility. Almost immediately, he puts his plans into action, hiring people like Julio Martinez (Kamar de los Reyes) into his fold. Director Guilder wanted to build a team of people whom he could trust as he took control of Project NOAH. Seeing how it is a waste of time and money, Guilder wishes to turn things around use Amy to become Project NOAH’s miracle.

Elizabeth’s time to turn inevitably came around. With Dr. Major Sykes’ failure to synthesize a cure against Fanning’s virus, Dr. Lear had no choice but to be with his wife until the end. More than once, Tim appeared to Elizabeth, eager to welcome her to their fold. Jonas and Nichole knew that inducing anti-virals into Elizabeth only prolonged her pain, so they decide to stop. In her final words, Elizabeth says that she loves and chooses Jonas and that she will love him for the rest of his life. Meanwhile, Tim sensed that Elizabeth did not live long enough to turn, so he, Shauna Babcock (Brianne Howey), and the other Virals have to wait for a new twelfth member once more.

When Brad and Lila woke up, their hands were tied, and they lay in the trunk of a car. Brad knew their fate: they were going to die unless he and Lila manage to free themselves from the restraints. Brad’s resourcefulness and training serve them well as they both remove one hand from their cuffs. However, something else clouded Brad’s mind. While they walked through the forest, Brad could not help but think about the day that their daughter, Eva (Natalia Mann) died.

An armed robber shot her as she entered a convenience store to give Brad his wallet. In turn, Brad’s life went on a downward spiral. After his marriage with Lila fails, Brad goes after Eva’s killer, shooting him in cold blood. Thankfully, Clark took him in and paved the way to Brad’s recovery. Now, Clark saves Brad once again after he realizes how bad the Project turned out. On their way back to Project NOAH, Brad finally tells Lila about what happened, enlightening them and giving their relationship a possible chance.

Facing Your Fears

In Brad’s absence, Anthony took care of Amy. Anthony did not wish for Amy to fail miserably the way he did, so he harshly trains Amy. Knowing Fanning’s strategy, Anthony forces Amy to remember the tragedy that brought her to Project NOAH. Reluctantly, Amy recalls the day she and her mother, Jeanette Bellafonte (Saycon Sengbloh) had an argument that made her overdose. Amy may have cried as she remembered the painful experience, but it was necessary. To defeat Fanning, she must be able to control all aspects of her emotions since Fanning picks on those to lure his next victim.

Soon after Amy realizes that she can control her telepathy, she finds herself standing in their old apartment, watching her mom cook. Amy’s brief reunion with Jeanette helped her unload some of the emotional baggage she carried. However, the moment of pure bliss does not last long. When Amy hears a few knocks on the door, she immediately knows who it is: Fanning. In the physical world, Brad and Lila realized what was happening as they approach the sleeping Amy.

‘The Passage’ Season 1, Episode 7 ‘You Are Like The Sun’ Final Verdict

Guilder’s takeover will surely make it hard for Brad, Lila, Amy, and Clark to escape Project NOAH, so this becomes another setback on their end. Also, Guilder’s decision to tighten security and starve the virals are expected to bring consequences both to the Humans and the Virals. Having someone who does not understand the entire situation in charge inevitably dooms the Project’s fate. Perhaps these events will spark the end because, after all, Amy does start the series by saying her story is the beginning of the apocalypse.

The Passage returns Monday, March 4th with ‘You Are Not That Girl Anymore’ at 9/8c on FOX.
