‘The Passage’ Season 1, Episode 4 ‘Whose Blood is That?’ Recap: Surrender
BY Daniel Rayner
Published 6 years ago
The Passage is inevitable. The cancellation of an execution ensues trouble for Project NOAH and its team. The latest additions to the Virals finally have to choose for themselves, whether they wished to or not. Meanwhile, a soldier who has been with the program for far too long goes rogue, jeopardizing the entire operation.
In this week’s episode of The Passage, Brad Wolgast (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) tries to negotiate with a rogue operative. Meanwhile, Shauna Babcock (Brianne Howey) reveals herself to Amy Bellafonte (Saniyya Sidney). As Dr. Tim Fanning (Jamie McShane) convinces Anthony Carter (McKinley Belcher III) to join him, Dr. Jonas Lear (Henry Ian Cusick) and Dr. Major Nichole Sykes (Caroline Chikezie) try to save Anthony.
The Story Dies With Me
Dr. Lila Kyle (Emmanuelle Chiriqui) and Lacey Antoine (Kecia Lewis) make progress in letting the public know about Project NOAH. Journalist Sierra Thompson (Trieste Kelly Dunn) takes on their story and finds compelling evidence for the claims. Before airing the story to the public, Sierra shows the report to Lila and Lacey who both approve of what she did. However, the next day, Lila and Lacey hear shocking news. Sierra died in a car accident the same day she was about to air the story. Sensing that the government had something to do with it, Lacey instinctively reacts. They needed to leave and leave fast.
Friendly Visit
To their stay in the facility more comfortable for Amy, Brad manages to convince Dr. Sykes to let him and Amy build a treehouse outside. The treehouse gave the duo both tactical and ergonomic benefits: it was better than staying in a room all day, and it gave them an overview of the compound as well as its surroundings. However, before they could do any more sightseeing, a rogue operative starts to fire from the rooftop. Because of this, Amy had to go back to her room and wait for Brad, who went after the agent.
Inside her room, Amy worried about Anthony, who was feeling sick. Suddenly, Shauna decides to visit her. Fearlessly, Amy talks to Shauna, asking her about the truth. In a friendly manner, Shaune answers all of Amy’s questions. Still, Shauna could not have Amy budge. She would have to go back to Amy sometime soon.
Lose My Mind
Clark Richards’ (Vincent Piazza) problems sprung from all directions. Shauna kept appearing in his subconscious and now, one of his agents, Randy Paulson (Adam Aalderks) is complaining about having bad dreams, too. At first, Clark orders Randy to get a psych evaluation, but he flips out as soon as Randy mentions Shauna. He did not want anyone to know about him and Shauna.
Later, Randy starts shooting from the rooftop. He wanted to leave the facility and is desperate to do so. Randy demanded a helicopter to fly him out of the facility. However, Clark did not wish to meet his demands. To ease the tension, Brad volunteers to talk to Randy. Things would have gone well were it not for Clark’s sudden decision to burst out of the door and shoot Randy. Randy wished to bring the secrecy of the Project to an end as soon as he got out, and Clark made sure that that did not happen, even if it meant killing one of his men.
Fooled
Before Anthony ended up in death row, he was a simple man. He just sold his first house, and he recently met a beautiful woman, Rachel Wilson (Elizabeth Alderfer) who not only helped him sell the house, but is also his new girlfriend. Unfortunately, the tide changes as soon as Anthony finds out that Rachel is married and her rich, soon to be ex-husband is after her. Sadly, the couple decided to sleep through the problem; hence Rachel’s suicide the following morning. No matter how many times Anthony thought about what happened, the ending is the same: he gets framed for Rachel’s murder receives the death penalty sentence.
Dr. Fanning uses this tragedy to his advantage. As they both go through Anthony’s memories, the Project NOAH team desperately tries to keep him alive. In the end, there is nothing that the team could do. Anthony dies and becomes a Viral, killing one of the attendants and attacking everyone in his way. As Dr. Lear and Dr. Sykes head to safety, Dr. Sykes notices that Dr. Lear’s mask is missing and he had blood on his face. With that, she is led to ask, ‘Whose Blood is That?’
‘The Passage’ Season 1, Episode 4 ‘Whose Blood is That?’ Final Verdict
Things are starting to heat up in the season. The plot about Lila and Lacey’s efforts to publicize Project NOAH is starting to get risky. Hopefully, we see more of that in the next episode. Also, the Project NOAH facility itself is nearing meltdown. It will only be a matter of time before Fanning and the other Virals breakout and cause an outbreak worse than the one in China. With that, Brad and Amy’s escape is coming sooner than we think.
The Passage returns Monday, February 11th with ‘How You Gonna Outrun The End of The World?’ at 9/10c on FOX.
