'The Nun' Pushes Back July Premiere Date to September

In an attempt to bank on the success of last year’s horror flick blockbuster “IT,” Warner Bros. is pushing back the release date of “The Conjuring” spin-off movie “The Nun” to September 7—roughly around the same time “IT” was released. It’s a sneaky move by the studio, but given its desire for the next horror film to reap the harvest, it could be a hit or miss.
In a report by Deadline, this move by the studio was a long time coming. Apparently, New Line Cinema already reserved that post-Labor Day weekend spot for an untitled horror flick. It turns out that it’s “The Nun” after all. While it’s too early to tell if the film will have the same box office earnings as “IT,” the Conjuring spin-off looks like a promising addition to its shared universe.
Directed by Corin Hardy, “The Nun” follows the story of Father Burke (Demián Bichir) as he investigates the mysterious (and supernatural) death of a nun in Rome. Vera Farmiga—who played paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren in the previous Conjuring films—won’t be in the movie, but her sister will. Taissa Farmiga plays sister Irene with Charlotte Hope joining her as Sister Victoria. Bonnie Aarons will reprise her role As Valak, the demon Nun, once again. Details about the movie are still kept under wraps, so I guess we’ll have to wait until after (or before) Labor Day before we come across anything scary.
“The Nun” hits theaters September 7th.
