Lucasfilm was working on a Rangers of the New Republic series starring Gina Carano, but plans were apparently cancelled after Carano refused to play ball with the PR team. Despite the cancellation, it looks like we could be getting a Mandalorian spinoff after all.
As per industry insider Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), Filoni and Favreau are currently developing a spinoff of The Mandalorian with the working title Ghost Track 17. We don’t have any details about the show, but I speculate it could have something to do with the continuing adventures of the Star Wars Rebels crew; after all, they did fly around the galaxy in a ship called the Ghost.
Since this is reported as a Mandalorian spinoff though, it’s possible it could center on a character that we’ve already met in the show. While I doubt Bill Burr would want to commit to an entire series starring his ex-Imperial character Mayfeld, I think there’s room for a story featuring the random X-Wing pilots we meet in the show. I’m sure there are also fans who would want to get an update on Cobb Vanth or a continuation of Boba Fett’s daimyo arc. After Din Djarin essentially hijacked The Book of Boba Fett to make a quarter of the show about him, I think it’s right that Boba gets to butt in for the next season of The Mandalorian.
Whatever Filoni and Favreau are working on, I just hope we get an announcement soon. It’s bad enough that we have to wait so long without a Star Wars movie in theaters. At least we have the TV side to keep fans satiated.
