Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon was one of the biggest shows to come out on HBO last year, and while everyone is eagerly awaiting the return of Princess Rhaenyra, it looks like the apocalypse show featuring Oberyn Martell and Lyanna Mormont has managed to surpass the hit dragon show.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, The Last of Us has managed to earn an average of 30.4 million viewers toward the final three episodes; compared to House of the Dragon which earned 29 million viewers during the end of its first season run.
There aren’t really any stats as to why TLOU was able to beat out HOTD, but I’m speculating that The Last of Us has more of a family-friendly theme throughout the show. As fun as the scandals in HOTD are to watch, I think families are more open to gather and watch the mushroom zombie show rather than share awkward glances at each other when the incest starts kicking in on the dragon lady series.
Personally I think both series are great, with each having very different themes. While The Last of Us does have ‘love’ at the very center of the series, with the multiple relationships between characters, I think HOTD is a more adult-oriented show that wants to delve into more complicated emotions besides the theme of love; and it’s not afraid to get really ugly.
