The King is Here in New Trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis

It’s been almost a decade since Baz Luhrmann gave us his adaptation of The Great Gatsby, but now he’s coming back with a biopic centered on the King of Rock and Roll.

Watch the new trailer for Elvis:

The official description reads:

A thoroughly cinematic drama, Elvis’s (Butler) story is seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). As told by Parker, the film delves into the complex dynamic between the two spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America.

While Elvis Presley himself is considered quite the icon, there have been stories going around about his manager Tom Parker, who was said to have been very protective of Presley’s brand and his career. Though Presley was a huge success at the height of his fame, his eventual death as a result of drug abuse is still one of the biggest tragedies in pop-culture.

We don’t know how far the biopic will go when it comes to the story of Elvis, but I suspect that it’s going to pretty much end with his death—like a lot of musical biopics go. With Luhrmann at the helm though, we should suspect some bombastic costumes and trippy visuals as well.

1Catch Elvis when it comes to theaters on June 24.
