Before we get the third season of Euphoria, show creator Sam Levinson has teamed up with Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye for an even raunchier series called The Idol starring Tesfaye and Lily-Rose Depp. The series had been delayed multiple times, but now HBO is ready to announce the release date.
Check out the latest trailer:
As confirmed by the trailer, The Idol will now be coming to Max on June 4. Though some fans were expecting the series to release last year, multiple delays in production (which were also said to be due to Levinson himself) have opted for the series to be pushed back to June.
Admittedly, the series has been mired with controversy over the past few months, and that’s said to be because of series co-creators Levinson and Tesfaye. Tesfaye was said to have demanded that the show not be too focused on the character of Depp; and Levinson was said to have extended production schedules because he would come to the set unprepared, coming up with complicated shots on-the-spot.
For now, it looks like The Idol is still pushing forward despite the online backlash. With Euphoria being such a huge hit for HBO, it’s said that Levinson is basically free to do whatever he wants on The Idol. I’m just hoping HBO intervenes in some way that the problems that have been reported about Levinson get addressed before cameras start rolling with Euphoria 3.
Catch The Idol when it premieres on Max this June 4.
