Ms. Marvel is set to premiere next week, and while some fans are still over the fence, Marvel Studios has released some new clips featuring Kamala and her parents.

While the show is still set in a world of superheroes, one very distinct personality of the comics is that Kamala has to constantly struggle with her family responsibilities; and her parents are very devout Muslims.
The previews have been showing us a lot of Kamala struggling with her powers, but I think this clip really embraces the religious side of Kamala’s story, and I think it’s pretty great. Even the people in the comments are already raving about how they got Kamala’s Muslim mother very into character.
Personally, I think the previews have been pretty lackluster for the series, but I love these more grounded, character moments. Hopefully we get more of it in the actual show.
Ms. Marvel is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega-fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels invisible both at home and at school—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?
Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney+ on June 8.
