The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Gets a First Trailer

The Guardians of the Galaxy are set to return to the spotlight next year, but before that James Gunn has pulled a leaf out of Star Wars’ book and is giving us a holiday special featuring the galaxy’s favorite a-holes.

Now we have our first trailer for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and it has Mantis and Drax trying to find the perfect Christmas present for Peter Quill. Watch this:

The story of the film looks to be an unapologetic Christmas story, with Star-Lord’s friends trying to cheer him up by getting him an absurd gift. Of course, by the end, we should expect the ‘real meaning of Christmas’ to be the ‘friends we made along the way’, but this is James Gunn, so he might want to subvert the trope one way or another.

Though the trailer does feature some returning Guardians, we also have some new faces like Cosmo the Space Dog who is voiced by Maria Bakalova. We also have Groot who looks to have grown to the same Groot we got in the first movie. Kevin Bacon is also appearing in the special, and though he was someone Peter had mentioned way back in the first Guardians film, he also has a history with James Gunn, starring as the villain in Gunn’s superhero flick, Super.

It’s honestly been a long wait for the third Guardians movie, with Gunn being able to make a whole movie for DC while this one was in development. Hopefully this will properly close the chapter of this iteration of the Guardians and set up to a new team for the future.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special comes to Disney on Nov. 25.
