The popular Japanese ghost film “The Grudge” returns to test the waters of 21st-century horror. And to lead the way is none other than rookie director Nicolas Pesce.
Pesce recently debuted his first film “The Eyes of My Mother,” a low-budget film that turned out to be a successful, monochromatic moving art piece. It seems this success has launched him into the spotlight. Because this time, his stylistic craft is ordered for more scrutiny. The canvas? Takashi Shimizu’s terrifying trilogy “The Grudge.”

According to Tracking Board, previous production companies of “The Grudge” are ready to take on a reawakening of the feared film. This includes Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures and the American Production Company.
Nicolas Pesce will be rewriting and directing the ultimate “The Grudge” film featuring “The Grudge,” “The Grudge 2,” “The Grudge 3,” and three more short segments from “Tales from the Grudge.” It will be one big bag of heart-stopping goodies.
The J-horror film tells the haunting tale of a curse that stalks the deaths of intense rage and agonizing sorrow. It is both undying, and unforgiving. Nicolas’ fans can only imagine what could be running through the director’s head right now. Would it be a monochrome madness like his first film? Will the effect be a silent grip or wide-eyed paranoia?
Just last year, The Ring had its own reboot with “Rings” directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez and Tsutomu Hanabusa. Turns out, this over $83 million box office film rendered disappointing reviews and even a teensy bit of rage from fans.
With fresh blood like horror buff Nicolas Pesce, can we expect better? It’s only a matter of time before we know the answer to that question.
Additionally, Nicolas had just presented another of his projects, the film entitled “Piercing” coming this 2018. It also falls under the horror genre.
