The Good Doctor was one of ABC’s strongest new shows last year. It drew in viewers with its heavy emotional tones as it followed Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) navigate his way into being the best surgeon that he can be despite his condition of living with autism. The first season proved to be a gripping one, with relationships, work-related stress, and friendships being tested, forged, and lost.
Once the show returns next week for its second season, though, we’ll get to see more characters receive some kind of a backstory. Details were revealed about one of the key doctors of the San Jose Bonaventure Hospital—Christina Chang’s Dr. Audrey Lim. When asked about a scoop on The Good Doctor season 2, TVLine’s Michael Ausellio revealed a juicy detail between Dr. Lim and Nicholas Gonzalez’s Dr. Neil Melendez.
“Might Dr. Melendez be moving on from Jessica with Dr. Lim?,” Ausellio teased. “Newly promoted series regular Christina Chang recently told TVLine that we’ll be exploring Dr. Lim’s life outside of the hospital in Season 2, as well as “how she operates in her… romantic relationship world,” adding, “it’s just nice to see her in her civvies.”
With the struggles of bearing a child, Melendez had no choice but to break things off with Jessica Preston (Beau Garrett). Following the breakup with his former fiancée, it’s exciting to note that a strange love will blossom between Melendez and Dr. Lim. The Good Doctor successfully portrays romantic and platonic relationships in an interesting way (remember Lea and Shaun’s trip?), so it’s undoubtedly going to be good seeing Melendez and Lim slowly find themselves in each other (and not to mention seeing them interact outside of the hospital).
The Good Doctor Season 2 premieres Monday, September 24th, with “Hello” at 10/9c on ABC.
