'The Good Doctor' Renewed For Fourth Season At ABC

The Good Doctor is here to stay and fans will get to see more of Dr. Shaun Murphy and the beloved team at St. Bonaventure hospital. ABC has given an early season 4 renewal for the hit drama series. The Good Doctor marks the first scripted renewal this season for ABC.

Based on the Korean tv series of the same name, The Good Doctor stars Freddie Highmore as surgeon Dr. Shaun Murphy who has autism and savant syndrome. The story revolves around his personal and professional struggles in his tenure at St. Bonaventure hospital. Now in its third season, Shaun continues to discover the challenges of work and personal life as his relationship with his fellow doctors grow deeper. He also navigates his first romantic relationship.

The cast includes Nicholas Gonzalez (Dr. Melendez), Antonia Thomas (Dr. Claire Brown), Fiona Gubelmann (Dr. Morgan Reznick), Christina Chang (Dr. Lim), Will Yun Lee (Dr. Alex Park), Richard Schiff (Dr. Glassman), Hill Harper (Dr. Andrews), and Paige Spara (Lea Dilallo).

So far, The Good Doctor came out as ABC’S most viewed show this season averaging 15.6 million viewers after factoring 35 days of viewing. It also tops as the season’s gainer in TV playback, jumping by 6.4 million viewers in its same-day returns. In addition to that, the drama also jumps by 175 % from its same-day return after 35 days of viewing with the adults 18-45 rating.

The Good Doctor has been a cornerstone on Monday nights and is one of those special heartfelt series that fearlessly tackles inclusivity,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said according to Deadline. “David Shore’s thoughtful storytelling, combined with an incredible cast led by Freddie Highmore’s nuanced performance as Dr. Shaun Murphy, are what have made this series a breakout hit over the past three seasons, and I’m excited to see where they take us next.”

“We are incredibly thankful to ABC for all their continued support and to David Shore for bringing The Good Doctor to television at the exact right moment” co-president of Sony Pictures Television Jason Clodfelter added. “The show’s complicated, surprising and emotional journey is the perfect prescription for right now.”

The Good Doctor joins fellow medical drama Grey’s Anatomy in ABC’s early renewals which secures two of the network’s most-watched shows for the 2020-2021 season. Traditionally, the network starts renewals around May.

The Good Doctor is developed by David Shore who’s also serving as executive producer and showrunner. Daniel Dae Kim, Erin Gunn, David Kim, and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers.
