'The Good Doctor' No Show Tonight, What We Know So Far and What to Expect

Yep, count us in as one of the extremely disappointed in tonight’s supposed episode of “The Good Doctor,” titled “22 Steps.” Instead of the episode, a special on Luke Bryan was aired on ABC today, bumping off the show for one night on its original timeslot. You don’t have to worry, however, because the show isn’t canceled or moved to a new timeslot. Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) is here to stay and his story will resume next Monday, November 13th on ABC.
Seven episodes in, and here’s what happened so far: Norman Bates—oh, sorry, that’s a totally different Freddie Highmore show—Back in the pilot episode titled “Burnt Food,” Dr. Shaun Murphy was introduced as one of the newest resident surgeons of St. Bonaventure Hospital and made us all cry. His main reason for wanting to be a doctor? So people’s loved ones won’t die.

Here’s what you might have missed in “The Good Doctor”

In “Mount Rushmore,” we saw Shaun go through his first day at the Bonaventure as Dr. Claire Brown (Antonia Thomas) struggles to be honest with her patient, causing her to learn a lesson the hard way.
In “Oliver,” Claire and Shaun are forced to work together as they try to race against time to bring back an organ for a patient—only to find out that it was transferred to another organ receiver. Well, at least they had a chance to operate on the organ and prevent it from being unusable.

In “Pipes,” their tandem is taken back to the action as they try to operate on a porn star. Meanwhile, Dr. Melendez is faced with a difficult task of trying to save a mother and her baby’s life. It’s an episode where conflict is the main focus of the narrative, and in the end, we see our characters turn it in for the night with Dr. Jared Kalu, Claire and Shaun on a night out drinking.

Point Three Percent” is the heaviest episode of “The Good Doctor” so far. This is where we saw Shaun take care of a patient who looks exactly like his brother (to which Dr. Glassman also freaked out over). It turns out this kid has bone cancer, with only a few months to live. But this kid is tough because he actually knew that he had cancer all along and that he was going to die anyway. The episode ends with Shaun reading an excerpt of “To Kill a Mockingbird.” While reading, he remembers how his brother loved the book and the other similarities that Evan has with him. As soon as Shaun ends the story, he walks away with tears in his eyes. This scene got me crying my ass out.

And finally, last week’s episode, titled “Not Fake,” focused on all the staff members of St. Bonaventure on high alert as an emergency involving a wedding bus crash happens. This is the first time we’ve seen the entire cast work together as a team, and man was it chaotic! But in the end, we were able to see Shaun’s impressive display of intelligence as he was able to recreate a femur using a 3D printer. The doctors were able to save the day and managed to go through the entire night unscathed.

So what will happen in next week’s “22 steps?”

So as we reel from a week of not seeing the expert staff of St. Bonaventure Hospital in “The Good Doctor,” next week’s episode will be something to look forward to. For one thing, Shaun will take on a case of a patient who is also living in the spectrum. He will have to battle all forms of prejudice as he tries his best to make it work with his patient and what other people think of people with autism. We also have Jared struggling to accept the fact that he can’t be the stellar surgeon of Bonaventure because of his limitations.
So there you go. There’s no episode for “The Good Doctor” tonight, but there definitely is something exciting to look forward to next Monday.
