Netflix may have abruptly canceled GLOW, but creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch have teamed up with Apple TV+ for another feminist piece with Roar.
Watch the official trailer starring Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Issa Rae, and more:
Here’s the official description:
Based on the book by best-selling author Cecelia Ahern and led by a star-studded cast of female talent in front of and behind the camera, Roar explores female experiences that many women have but rarely talk about. Through these 8 stories, each episode uses magical realism and delivers an insightful, poignant, and sometimes hilarious portrait of what it means to be a woman today.
If you watched GLOW, you’ll know that Roar is also bringing back several cast members from that show like Betty Gilpin and Alison Brie. They even brought back Chris Lowell to act alongside Brie with her episode.
With Black Mirror essentially taking a break since the start of the pandemic, Roar should give some fans a dose of that dark magic-realist anthology series that we haven’t been getting a lot of. It’s also worth noting that The Twilight Zone reboot got canceled after a year, so this should also fill that hole for now.
While I am still pretty bummed about GLOW being canceled, I am eager to come back to this team, which has done some amazing work with their Netflix show. Who knows, maybe there’ll be room for a third season or a film in the next couple of years. Fingers crossed.
Roar comes to Apple TV+ on April 15.
