'The Gifted' Season 2, Episode 6 'iMprint' Recap: Ambush

The Inner Circle trains heavily for an ambush right after they assemble their team. However, keeping the team members in the dark takes its toll on the leadership. Meanwhile, a group of mutants loses their home. As the Mutant Underground rushes in to help, they unknowingly walk into a trap. Hope continues to diminish among The Gifted.

In this week’s episode of The Gifted, Lorna Dane/Polaris (Emma Dumont) starts to doubt the Inner Circle’s plans. Meanwhile, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Caitlin Strucker (Amy Acker) visit Dr. Taylor (Sumalee Montano). In Baltimore, the Mutant Underground Station gets ambushed by The Purifiers, led by Jace Turner (Coby Bell).

After waking up from a dream with Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White), Lauren goes with Caitlin to Dr. Taylor’s office, hoping to find information about Rebecca (Anjelica Bette Fellini). However, Dr. Taylor starts to panic when they mention Rebecca. As she called for security, Lauren destroyed the telephone. Eventually, Dr. Taylor shows them a video of Rebecca turning a nurse inside out, making Lauren and Caitlin realize that Rebecca is dangerous. When they arrive home, Lauren swears to bring Andy home, one way or another.

After their raid on the mutant-friendly hospital, The Purifiers now set their eyes on the Mutant Underground Station in Baltimore. However, Jace suggests a change of tactics to make them and their cause appealing to many. Because of this, they decide to bomb a church that served as a mutant sanctuary. They knew that the Mutants would then move to the Mutant Underground Station, so they set up an ambush there.

By the time the Mutant Underground realizes that they walked into a trap, it was too late. The Mutants quickly go into hiding, but most of them were less fortunate, knocked out by teargas that The Purifiers used. Clarice Fong/Blink (Jamie Chung), John Proudstar/Thunderbird (Blair Redford), Marcos Diaz/Eclipse (Sean Teale) and Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) with two other mutants, but Shatter (Jermaine Rivers) ended up sacrificing himself while he covered for them. Unfortunately, Reed’s powers stayed out of his control even as they arrived back to their hideout.

Lorna did not appreciate the constant, rigorous training she had to undergo. Because of all the training, she barely spent enough time with her daughter, Dawn. Also, she did not know anything about the plan, making her furious. When Reeva Payge (Grace Byers) shows up after their training, Polaris airs her concern before storming out of the training room.

Esme Frost (Skyler Samuels) took the initiative to convince Lorna to trust them. She brings Lorna to the site of their next target, opening up to her about her and her sisters’ troubling past. Also, the mission is personal for the Frost Sisters (Skyler Samuels), since their target funded the facility that held them captive when they were young.

However, Esme and Lorna’s time together quickly backfired when Esme unknowingly hums Lorna’s lullaby, making Lorna suspect that she was inside Dawn’s head. Before Lorna could do Esme more harm, Reeva opens the elevator and stops Lorna from choking Esme. Later that night, Esme tells her the truth about her and her sisters; something that she never told anyone. Lorna silently accepts Esme’s apology as she stood at view deck with Reeva, implying that she will push through with the plan.

This episode has the right balance of drama and action. The conflicts become harder with each passing chapter, and the heroes’ struggle to overcome their challenges take its toll on them. The season, so far, presents the heroes in a way that shows their desperation ever since the first season finale. Each episode makes the viewers wonder if they will survive, or if they will lose to the Inner Circle.

The Gifted continues on Tuesday, November 13th with ‘no Mercy’ at 8/9c on Fox.
