Published 6 years ago
The Mutant Underground makes sure that their valiant member’s sacrifice will not be in vain. Because of the combined forces of the Police and the Purifiers, The Gifted find it hard to escape. While those who do escape manage to seek refuge, others mourn their losses and question their place in the war that has inevitably begun.
In this week’s episode of The Gifted, the Mutant Underground, led by the Struckers, aid the fleeing Morlocks. Finding themselves in a tight spot, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Caitlin Strucker (Amy Acker) brace for the worst. Meanwhile, John Proudstar/Thunderbird (Blair Redford) becomes consumed by grief after losing Clarice Fong/Blink (Jamie Chung). At the Inner Circle’s Headquarters, Lorna Dane/Polaris (Emma Dumont) tells Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White) the truth.
Questions
After seeing a child try to flee during their raid in the Morlock tunnels, Jace Turner (Coby Bell) starts to question the morality of their operation. Clearing his mind over what happened, Jace leaves Officer Wilson (Tom O’Keefe) in charge of the survivors of their strike team. In his hotel room, Jace looks up information about the Morlocks, leading him to find the child he saw during the raid. When he decides to confront Benedict Ryan (Peter Gallagher) about the mission, he receives shocking news. Officer Wilson is dead, killed by a mutant. Also, Benedict has reason to believe that the Mutants are up to something big. There was no time to mourn their loss, only time to avenge Wilson’s death.
Rescue
The Morlocks’ rescuers soon become escapees as the cops close in on them. Sadly, splitting up became their only option despite how dangerous it is. One by one, the police took down the Morlocks. Caitlin and Lauren may have escaped, but they found themselves trapped in an old water treatment facility. Fearing the worst and running out of bullets, Caitlin prepares to cover for Lauren’s escape. Luckily, Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) and Marcos Diaz/Eclipse (Sean Teale) arrives just in time to save them from the reinforced police presence outside.
While driving away from the scene, Reed receives a call from Lorna; the call that was crucial in bringing their family back together.
Guilty Conscience
The Inner Circle never failed to surprise Andy, but this time was different. As he joined the Frost Sisters (Skyler Samuels), Reeva Payge (Grace Byers), Bulk (Renes Rivera), Heather (Chelle Ramos), Tico (Tyshon Freeman), and Lorna down the sewers, Andy could not help but wonder how they never used the tunnels in their operations before. Andy always doubted in his mind, but today was perhaps his last straw. Lorna, on the other hand, managed to gather what info she could on the Inner Circle’s plans before leaving the Headquarters. However, she knew that she had to convince Andy to come around, so she talks to him before going.
Andy did not wish to believe Lorna at first, but he knew that Lorna had no reason to lie. What she told him was the truth. Benedict Ryan and Reeva Payge worked together to achieve a common goal. The missions they went to, the people they killed, and Rebecca’s (Anjelica Bette Felinni) death was all for a lie. Andy knew that he made a mistake, and this made him feel that his family would no longer accept him. Andy thought of himself as a monster after the things he did. However, Reed assured him that he is not one. That day, Reed, too, killed Officer Wilson, even after destroying his gun. He killed Wilson not because he was a threat, but because he wanted to kill him. Reed, more than anyone, understood what his son was going through.
Mourning
While everyone else was getting their taste of the action, John sat in the apartment, thinking about Clarice. After seeing her die in front of him, John lost focus. Each time he tried to track, all he saw was Clarice. Everyone John ever loved lost their lives, so it was hard for him not to keep blaming himself for their deaths. None of John friends knew what he could have been going through, but they were there for him. With Andy and Lorna returning to their fold, John felt less alone, all equally sharing the grief of losing Clarice, their friend. Now, John must fight back, and so must the Mutant Underground.
‘The Gifted’ Season 2, Episode 15 ‘Monsters’ Final Verdict
Andy and Lorna’s stay at the Inner Circle would not have lasted long. They are both equally good people and perhaps swayed due to a desperate decision. In the long run, their characters realized that they are not on the right side of how things should be. Although their reunion was admittedly uneventful, it was still remarkably emotional, especially during their sudden return to their loved ones. Now, we are just one step away from all hell breaking loose in the season finale.
The Gifted continues Tuesday, February 26th with ‘oMens’ at 8/9c on Fox.
