Wherever they go, The Gifted will always be the hunted. When news about one of their members’ sudden death reaches them, the Inner Circle digs deep to find the culprit. Meanwhile, the Purifiers up their game and take the attacks to the Morlocks themselves. Elsewhere, the Struckers commit their identities just as they receive a call for help.
In this week’s episode of The Gifted, the Inner Circle closes in on the traitor in their midst. Meanwhile, the Purifiers, led by Jace Turner (Coby Bell), head to the tunnels to takeout the Morlocks. When this happens, Clarice Fong/Blink (Jamie Chung) asks for the Mutant Underground’s help in evacuating the Morlocks. On their way to help, the Struckers finally decide on what to do with their X-Genes once and for all.
We found The Spy
Reeva Payge (Grace Byers) calls her team together for a meeting. The evening before, Max (James Carpinello) went out and is now missing. Lorna Dane/Polaris (Emma Dumont) dismisses this as one of Max’s hangovers, but Heather (Chelle Ramos) starts to argue with her. To stop the tension, Reeva shushes them both and assures the team that she and the Frost Sisters (Skyler Samuels) are working on finding out what happened.
Sometime later, the Reeva and Esme gather the team in the training room bringing important news. Max was found dead inside his car parked in front of a nearby liquor store. Thinking that they have a traitor among them, Reeva orders the building to be on lockdown. Everyone stayed inside and had no means of contacting anyone outside. Eventually, the Frosts found the spy. Before Lorna and Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White) could do anything, Reeva killed Sage (Hayley Lovitt) after finding out that “she” used her security account to view footage of Max. Now, Lorna is yet to tell the Mutant Underground about the demise of their former comrade.
Intruders in the Sewers
Benedict Ryan (Peter Gallagher) received a new assignment from Reeva: exterminate the Morlocks. Reeva chooses Jace to lead the operation, preying on Jace’s desire for revenge. At first, Jace is reluctant to take on the mission. However, Ryan promises him that this is his chance to do what Sentinel Services could not do. With that, Jace chooses to lead the mission, taking Wilson (Tom O’Keefe) and a handful of volunteering men with him.
At first, the Morlocks seemed to gain the upper hand of the fight. Erg (Michael Luwoye) uses their knowledge of the tunnels well and coordinates the attacks of the fighting mutants strategically. However, as soon as the Purifiers figure out the tricks they are using, the tide turns against the Morlocks. The Purifiers booby trap the bodies of their fallen and the Morlock Strike team fall prey to their tactics. In a matter of minutes, the Morlocks were forced to stand their ground as the Purifiers advanced. As the last of the Morlocks’ line of defense failed, Blink held the portal for Erg as he and a child mutant escaped— until Jace fires unforgiving shots.
Mutant Caravan
The Struckers made a realization about their identities. Lauren Strucker (Natalie Alyn Lind) could not hide behind the truth of her powers. Now, Lauren recognizes that she has to accept and master her abilities. Strangely enough, Lauren’s resolve made her father, Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) decide to stop taking the serum too. They could not deny the family heritage they have ad neither could they deny their true selves. Now that the family chose powers, they have to heed Clarice’s call and save the Morlocks from the Purifiers.
John Proudstar/Thunderbird (Blair Redford) and Marcos Diaz/Eclipse (Sean Teale) are first to arrive. Almost immediately, Clarice pulls out a group of children from her portal. The entire evacuation process was stressful, and it seemed as if the Morlocks never ran out of refugees. Even as the Struckers arrived, Mutants kept coming by the numbers. When the Purifiers breach the Morlocks’ line of defense, only Erg, a child, and Clarice survive the onslaught, or at least they thought they did. Just as John stood to pull Clarice out of the portal, Jace shoots her multiple times, killing her in front of John. Meanwhile, Caitlyn Strucker (Amy Acker) decides to breach the police blockade, driving their van past two police cars that blocked their way.
‘The Gifted’ Season 2, Episode 14 ‘calaMity’ Final Verdict
Towards the end, the show finally fires the plot up. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to one of the show’s most important characters. The decision to kill Blink off must have been a tough one. Still, things such as that are bound to happen. However, how the Mutant Underground would fight the Inner Circle remains unclear. The entire second season has been full of the Mutant Underground’s defeats, and now that the Morlocks lost their place, the Underground just lost their only fighting chance against the Inner Circle.
The Gifted continues Tuesday, February 19th with ‘Monsters’ at 8/9c on Fox.
