'The Gifted' Season 2, Episode 12 'hoMe' Recap: The Secret Mission

The unlikeliest duo has an alliance in the world of The Gifted. As the original members of the Mutant Underground try to take action, the Inner Circle stays one step ahead. Meanwhile, the Struckers decide to reach out to a family member for help. However, they are not the only ones who wish to bolster their forces.

In this week’s episode of The Gifted, Caitlin (Amy Acker) and Lauren Strucker (Natalie Alyn Lind) reach out to Caitlin’s brother, Danny (Jeffrey Nordling), to gain some intel as Evangeline (Erinn Ruth) gathers both the Mutant Underground and the Morlocks, the Inner Circle’s strike team attacks. Finally deciding for herself, Clarice Fong/Blink (Jamie Chung) leaves the Underground.

FOX

With Reed Strucker (Stephen Moyer) preoccupied with gathering the Underground, Caitlin and Lauren head out to find Caitlin’s brother, Danny. Danny is a lawyer who works with Homeland Security, so Caitlin and Lauren thought about warning him about the impending danger that the Inner Circle poses. However, this may not be the best course of action.

As soon as Danny arrives at their meeting place, he could not contain himself. The Inner Circle has connections in the government, and they had Danny wired so they could record their conversation. They did not have much time before Sentinel Services arrived, but Danny did tell them how far the Inner Circle has penetrated the government. Also, Lauren’s enhanced powers and strength helped them escape the ambush flawlessly.

Meanwhile, Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White) started to have struggles related to his shared dreams with Lauren. In one vision, Lauren manages to defeat him. He woke up, covered in blood from his nose. Seeing this as an opportunity to lure Lauren to their side, the Frost Sisters (Skyler Samuels) try to convince Andy to let them use their powers to bring Lauren to the fold. Andy seemed reluctant at first, but after he received news about Cailin and Lauren’s escape from Sentinel Services, he agrees to let the Frosts do their magic.

Evangeline wasted no time in gathering both the Morlocks and the Underground. After handing out assignments to the Atlanta station, Evangeline heads to a secure location to meet with the nation’s mutant leaders. Meanwhile, John Proudstar/Thunderbird (Blair Redford), Marcos Diaz/Eclipse (Sean Teale), and Clarice pick-up Erg (Michael Luwoye). During the trip, Lorna Dane/Polaris (Emma Dumont) gives Marcos a call, warning them about the Inner Circle’s Surgical Strike mission: assassinate Evangeline.

Unfortunately, by the time Marcos and his group arrived, all is lost. Ambulances and local government units flooded the building, bringing bodies out of the rubble. If there was any hope at finding any survivors, chances were slim. They could do nothing but watch from a distance at the carnage that claimed a considerable number of mutant lives. Tensions rise between John and Erg as Erg remains firm in not being involved in the fight.

The Brave Deserter

Michael Luwoye and Jamie Chung in The Gifted Season 2, Episode 12

FOX

The day made Clarice reevaluate her stand in the whole mutant-human skirmish. She recalls the time when she used to live in a foster home owned by a cruel foster parent. Also, she remembers her foster sister, Lilly (Given Sharp) who was killed by their foster parent. Seeing John and Erg fight after a massacre of mutants did not make things any better for her. With that, she decides to join the Morlocks, because she could not bear to see John plunge into danger anymore and she is tired of all the fighting.

Grieving

Emma Dumont and Sean Teale in The Gifted Season 2, Episode 12

FOX

After failing to save Evangeline, Lorna and Marcos talk things over. Regardless of what has happened, Evangeline knew that Lorna was still on their side and that because of this, they had a fighting chance against the Inner Circle. The couple could not believe how complicated things have turned out ever since they joined the Underground, but there they were. Now, they are all that is left standing between an all-out mutant-human war.

‘The Gifted’ Season 2, Episode 12 ‘hoMe’ Final Verdict

This chapter is the type of episode that sets up the scene for the next one. However, having an important character like Evangeline as well as all the other Mutant Leaders die off-screen was quite unfortunate. Hopefully, we get to see more of that in the next episode as an alternate point of view. Blink leaving the Underground was heartbreaking, although it was expected of her ever since she got acquainted with the Morlocks. Now, the final battle boils down to the Struckers and the remaining members of the Underground, but we still are not sure of which side each of them chooses.

The Gifted continues Tuesday, January 22nd with ‘teMpted’ at 8/9c on Fox.
