‘The Flash’ Season 4 Finale ‘We Are The Flash’ Recap: Welcome to the New World [SPOILERS]

“The Flash’s” last episode for the season was full of heart-dropping and tear-jerking moments. From Central City going dark to Barry (Grant Gustin) seeing Ralph (Hartley Sawyer), every moment just made you gasp and excited for the next.

Team Flash gets a new member

Last episode, Harry (Tom Cavanagh) helped Iris and used whatever thinking ability he had left to try and look for Marlize (Kim Engelbrecht) and convince her to help. Their efforts paid off, and the three of them came to Star Labs just as Clifford’s (Neil Sandilands) plan for the Enlightenment was taking action.

Harry had it right all along. Use your emotions. With Cecile’s (Danielle Nicolet) telepathic powers, Barry could enter DeVoe’s mind, look for the good in him and bring him out. Unfortunately, Cecile is on the brink of giving birth, and that posed a few bumps in the road.

DeVoe’s messed up mind

When Flash goes into DeVoe’s mind, he was immediately plopped onto the street where the bus metas were created, and where Barry got out from the speed force. He hid in the bus when The Thinker arrived.

The Flash had to go to the DeVoe’s house to get the good Clifford out so he could regain control of his body. Unfortunately, it was empty. To add to the problems, Cecile’s contractions kept waking her up, breaking her connection with Barry.

Seeing the team needed all the help they could get, Harry disappeared into his workstation. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) found him sitting in front of his thinking cap. With the little vocabulary he still knew, Harry screamed, “Help!” and Cisco took out the hat from him. For the last time, Harry helped, saying Barry should go to the place where he and Marlize first fell in love.

But when Barry got to Oxford, the place where Clifford and Marlize had their first date, he was met with nothing but a picnic set up and an abandoned car playing a slow song. Then from a distance, Barry heard, “Rookie?” and out came Ralph.

Hide and seek

The team had another problem on their hands, DeVoe popped into the lab. It’s a good thing Marlize was there to put a force field around them, giving her enough time to transport them into their pocket dimension.

It didn’t take long for DeVoe to find them, Marlize had to transfer them again. But in the end, Clifford came in and sent everyone flying. He even tried to control Joe (Jesse L. Martin), making him point his gun to himself. But at the last minute, he used his strength and love to lead it right back. DeVoe sent Joe flying instead.

He turned to Cecile, who was still lying on the gurney and used his powers to choke her without even touching her.

Shrimps saved the day

After the usual “How are you here and alive?” conversation, Ralph thought about going to the university where DeVoe taught, where he was a simple professor before dark matter consumed him and became a psycho. He felt that’s where good DeVoe would be. He was right, as Clifford was sitting on the stage in the auditorium but with a hole in his chest.

Instead of giving up, Barry thought of the answer to their problems. Barry brought Ralph to the street where it all began, a few feet from the exit portal on top of the bus. He explained to Ralph that he was the answer. DeVoe kept Ralph alive because it was still his body, and it never made him leave. So as soon as he crosses that portal, DeVoe would cease to exist, and Ralph could rejoin the outside world. Barry told Ralph he could still be the hero he was destined to be. So Ralph put on his suit, ready for a fight.

Unfortunately, DeVoe has thought of and calculated everything. So Flash and the Elongated Man tried and failed to battle DeVoe, missing him every time they threw a punch. Ralph knew it was because he could read their mind, so he told Barry to do what Ralph did best, not think. That wasn’t entirely true since he told Flash after to think of something else.

So every punch he threw, he yelled a shrimp meal. Flash had Iris on his mind has he beat up a DeVoe clone. When they were done, DeVoe’s army came rushing to them. With Ralph’s elastic abilities and Barry’s speed, they sent the army flying.

They sped through the portal and Barry was back in his body. The real DeVoe was just about to choke Cecile to death until Ralph took over his body. Marlize watched her love vanish before her eyes but not before he could press a button on the back of the chair.

Losing another Wells

After using the thinking cap for the last time, Harry turned to Barry when he first came out of the speed force. He was muttering the same words and scribbling the same symbols.

Marlize wanted to write some of the tons of wrongs she’s done. So, she made something that could bring Harry back. And it worked, Harry was coherent and talking normally again. Sadly, the thing that made him was gone. He didn’t understand a thing Cisco said about symbols and binary translations. He lost his intelligence. The whole team was shocked and sad at how Harry turned out. But they still hugged him goodbye when he decided to leave to see his daughter on his earth.

The return of DeVoe

When everyone was celebrating their victory, everything technological in the lab malfunctioned, signaling Kilgore’s powers were near. A holographic image of DeVoe appeared on the chair with the use of Ralph’s power transferring abilities. Marlize just did one thing, and he was gone. She pulled out the battery from behind. But this triggered a self-destruct feature on the satellites. The debris was falling to earth, and the effect could be extinction.

As this was all happening, Cecile was in labor in Caitlin’s (Danielle Panabaker) clinic. Vibe, the Elongated Man, and Flash rushed into town to save the people and stop the satellite pieces from the hitting the earth. When the biggest piece was about to hit the ground, Flash used his speed to obliterate it but not with some unknown help.

‘The Flash’ Season 4: A blast from the future

The mystery girl from the West-Allen wedding showed up at Joe’s place when they were all celebrating the coming home of Jenna Marie West. Her identity was finally revealed, and it looks like messing up is a thing in her family. It turns out that she is Iris and Barry’s daughter from the future, and she’s asking them for help because there’s a big mess on her hands.
