Things aren’t looking good on “The Flash.” It looks like Team Flash failed the world this time in the show’s 22nd episode in its fourth season, “Think Fast.” The episode’s title is like a jab at the team’s measly intelligence compared to DeVoe’s (Neil Sandilands). Aside from people and things (i.e., knowledge) they’re desperate to get back, Team Flash is losing all hope in stopping DeVoe. Feeling incomplete, Barry (Grant Gustin), Cisco (Carlos Valdes), Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), Harry (Tom Cavanagh), Iris (Candice Patton), and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) desperately try to save not only the city but the world from the Enlightenment.
Dumb Harry vs. Smart DeVoe
Harry might be literally slowly losing his mind, but the change in him has greatly helped Team Flash. After his meeting with the more emotional Council of Wells, he’s become more empathic, more in touch with his emotions. And because of this, he was able to tell Iris what DeVoe will and why he will do it.
Clifford changed greatly when Marlize (Kim Engelbrecht) left him. If he was bad before, he’s worse now without a voice of reason stopping him from, well, all the bad things he will do. With all his powers he stole from all the bus metas, he was able to casually walk in the top secret facility where Argus was hiding Fallout (Ryan Alexander McDonald). With just a few swooshes and swipes, he killed anyone who got in his way. Using Fallout’s powers, he charged the last piece needed to launch the satellites for the Enlightenment.
After seeing how broken and sad Harry was, Iris asked for his help in investigating. For the first time in a long time, Harry felt useful. But after a while, Iris was regretting her random act of kindness. Harry was starting to become annoying with his talk about being in someone else’s shoes and over emotional approach. Iris had enough and tried to escape him. But he just followed her home.
He did, however, have the bright idea of turning Marlize against DeVoe. Thinking more with his heart than his head, he put himself in her shoes and found her, broken and alone in the place she felt safe, their first home as husband and wife in England.
Flashes in training
They brought John Diggle (David Ramsey) to the lab to ask some questions. Harry’s idea prompted them to. They all find out that DeVoe was able to impersonate him to get what he wanted. Desperate for a win, Cisco had the idea to enter Flashtime to save the hostages DeVoe left for dead when he stole Fallout from Argus. He and Caitlin were able to convince Barry to train them for the mission in Flashtime. But instead of this being a chance for the team to come together, it’s slowly ripping them apart.
After two failed practices in Flashtime, The Flash doesn’t want to go through with the plan anymore. Which is understandable since feels responsible for Ralph’s death, one of his friends. He doesn’t want to lose anyone else under his watch. He and Cisco have a loud argument about this in the Cortex where everyone can watch and hear.
Cisco was furious that they were getting sidelined again for an epic battle. But Barry made his point. Cisco countered it saying it was him who started it all, that Cisco’s the one who opened up the portal to save Barry, creating the bus metas. He didn’t back down. In the end, he convinced Barry again into letting them help.
Enter Flashtime again
It was time to stop DeVoe once and for all. Cisco and Caitlin were calm and relaxed. Everything went smoothly. Cisco made a little baby breach for each hostage in the air and Caitlin had an ice shooter that would hold the breach together. They were able to save everyone and The Flash had the chance to execute his part.
Part of the plan was The Flash would run fast enough to slip through DeVoe’s pocket dimension and stop him from launching the satellites into space. Fortunately, Barry was able to follow DeVoe in the nick of time. Just as the satellites went up, The Flash took one down, foiling DeVoe’s Enlightenment plan. But the villain seemed unfazed by this which bugged Barry.
When he got to the lab, an alarm instantly sounded off, signaling them that someone was hacking into Star Lab’s satellite. DeVoe was going to use it to replace the one The Flash took down. When Barry found where he was hiding, the secret room in the hallway, DeVoe sealed the door shut. They failed, and DeVoe won. With all the satellites in space, the Enlightenment began.
“The Flash” continues next Tuesday, May 22nd, with the Season 4 finale titled “We Are The Flash” at 8/9c on The CW.
