The District Attorneys’ Office in The Fix is on lockdown. A mole leaked information to their adversaries, keeping them one step ahead. Now that the Prosecutors know about the mole, they investigate all of the employees. On the other hand, the defense team and the defendant deal with internal issues. With a potential leak of information on their end, they resort to the most desperate of all measures.
On Monday night’s episode of The Fix, Maya Travis (Robin Tunney) places the District Attorneys’ Office on lockdown to find Ezra Wolf’s (Scott Cohen) mole within them. Meanwhile, Ezra and Buck Neal (Robert Ray Wisdom) deal with the problems that Severyn ‘Sevvy’ Johnson (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and his children, Star Johnson (Chasten Harmon) and Gabriel Johnson (Alex Saxon) caused.
Supportive Boyfriend
River ‘Riv’ Allgood (Marc Blucas) called Maya to check on her. When he finds out that Maya will be at the office all night, he is disappointed, but he did not let that stop him from being sweet to her. With his romantic dinner plan canceled, he decides to bring Maya the food he prepared. Maya appreciated this gesture so much and eagerly let him meet her co-workers. Also, he gives Maya a present left at their doorstep. Before he left the building, CJ Emerson (Merrin Dungey) tells him the truth about the presents from Maya’s stalker and that he should remain vigilant. The next morning, Riv calls Maya. He was up all night, looking at all the other presents from the stalker that Maya kept. The scene pans up to a listening device, hidden on the ceiling of their house.
The Snitch
Matthew Collier (Adam Rayner) takes charge of the investigation which includes checks on the personnel’s files, computers, as well as mobile phones. Also, they are all required to do a lie detector test. Fearing discovery, Loni Kampoor (Mouzam Makkar) deletes all data in her phone related to Wolf. Loni goes as far as stealing calming medicine from her co-worker to keep her heart rate down.
After hiding from the cops and consuming all of the pills she stole, Loni finally revealed herself. During the lie detector test, Matthew watched her reactions and her gestures. He knew that she was the mole, but chose not to fire her at that moment. Loni, thinking that she passed the test, took her phone back and hurriedly went to the restroom, vomiting as a result of the meds. To her surprise, Matthew stood outside the cubicle, telling her that he knew.
Under normal circumstances, Matthew would fire Loni. However, the District Attorneys’ Office could no longer afford any bad PR, and news about one of the prosecutors being a mole would surely crush them. Because of this, Matthew leaves her with a warning. When he finds a listening device in their discussion room, he calls Loni to his office. Loni denies that she placed the device and insists that she is not lying to him, which Matthew senses are real. There is yet another mole in the office who got away.
Bail Out
Gabriel’s heart is broken and full of disappointment, but he is well enough to know what he must do. After leaving Star and Sevvy behind, Gabriel drove to the District Attorney’s Office, confessing what happened to Maya. Since the investigation is on-going, Maya had to keep Gabriel in the storage room temporarily.
As soon as the investigation ends, Maya brings Gabriel to the tea. He expresses his eagerness to testify against Sevvy. Unfortunately, the Police arrest Gabriel as Maya and CJ lead him out of the building to take him to a safe house. Star filed an assault complaint against Gabriel, and because of the tracker Sevvy placed on Gabriel’s car, the cops knew his location.
Sevvy, on the other hand, has a different plan in motion. He spent most of his time recovering from his injuries at Star’s apartment. After his doctor checks on him, he remains in bed. When Wolf and Star head out to file the complaint against Gabriel, Sevvy has his chance. Star comes home and finds that Sevvy is not there. Instead, Sevvy got on a private plane, and no one knows where he is going.
The Last Piece
The lockdown would potentially last until the next day, but Maya decided that it would not stop them from doing their job. After some digging into the evidence as well as Gabriel’s confession, Maya and CJ find a lead worth following. CJ goes to where Gabriel buried the bag and saw blood on a tree stump. Gabriel admits that he hit Sevvy, but maintains that Sevvy was conscious when he left.
When the DNA results from the crime scene finally arrive, a new name comes out. CJ knew the name ‘Calvin Taylor’ once belonged to Buck Neal. After a brief confrontation with Buck, CJ and Maya have the police search Buck’s office. Wolf tries to get them to leave but fails as Maya shuts him down what they did find, however, where random photos of Jessica. Sevvy hired Buck to stalk her because of his jealousy.
As they scrolled through more photos, one sticks out to Maya. The photo, taken two days before the murder, contained the same yoga mat from the crime scene. The yoga mat ties Sevvy directly to the death since it has his prints and was unopened up until the morning of Jessica’s murder. They have the last piece. Now, they can call for an arrest warrant.
‘The Fix’ Season 1, Episode 5 ‘Lie to Me’ Final Verdict
Riv’s involvement in the show becomes increasingly relevant to the plot. We are likely to see more of him in the next episodes. Also, Sevvy’s secret departure further complicates things. If Maya and the Prosecutors bail Gabriel out of prison (assuming that Star and Wolf would not press charges), they may still use their action to their advantage. Thanks to Sevvy’s secret departure, public opinion on him will undoubtedly take a wrong turn.
The Fix continues Monday, April 22nd with ‘The Fugitive’ at 10/9c on ABC.
