‘The Fix’ Season 1, Episode 4 ‘Scandal’ Recap: Deception
BY Daniel Rayner
Published 6 years ago
The Fix is a world of legal drama, where America watches as a former Hollywood star tries to clear his name once again. After an undercover mission becomes a success to the prosecution, the defense is eager to fight back. This time, they use whatever means necessary to bring down the District Attorneys. Meanwhile, the estranged family further loses the essence of their relationship with each other.
On Monday night’s episode of The Fix, Ezra Wolf (Scott Cohen) and his team use all means necessary to form a scandal against Maya Travis (Robin Tunney) and the District Attorney’s Office. Regardless, Maya and the team continue to compile evidence, stumbling upon footage of Julianne Johnson (Robin Givens) meeting Jessica Meyer (Taylor Kalupa) hours before her death. Meanwhile, the Johnson family starts to lose trust among each other.
Dirty Tactics (Continued)
After Maya and her team hit them hard, Ezra and his team return the favor. Ezra sends his undercover fixer, Buck Neal (Robert Wisdom) to River ‘Riv’ Allgood’s (Marc Blucas) ranch. Riv may have figured out Buck’s true identity, but Buck gets away with what he needs: videos of Maya. Ezra tech team, led by Ares Ahn (Abraham Lim) create a ‘deepfake’ using Maya and Riv’s private videos. Instead of Riv, Matthew Collier (Adam Rayner) appears in the video.
Just as Matthew holds a press conference to release a statement about the issue, Ezra releases more fuel to the fire. This time, his team uses factual photos dated to over a year ago, showing two different images of Maya as well as Matthew checking in at the same hotel. However, Ezra’s seemingly successful run is far from over.
The Johnson Family Mess
Severen ‘Sevvy’ Johnson (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) slowly lost his grip over his family. Star Johnson (Chasten Harmon) moved out of their residency before Jessica’s murder, and now, Gabriel Johnson (Alex Saxon) lost faith in his father as well. After Julianne ‘saved’ Gabriel from a bar fight, Sevvy visited him at Julianne’s house. Gabriel was all but receptive towards his father, storming out of the house. Luckily, Seevy managed to leave a tracking device in Gabriel’s car, so he follows after him.
Gabriel drove to Star’s place. The step-brother and sister try to talk things through with what happened. Before he fell asleep, Gabriel tells Star about helping Sevvy. When Sar finds out that Gabriel referred to the bag that Sevvy had him throw away, they head to where Gabriel buried the bag. Sevvy, notified by the tracker, followed after Gabriel and Star. Finally, Gabriel and Star discover what is inside the bag: Sevvy’s shoes, covered in sand as well as a photo of Jessica. Just as Gabriel heads back to his car, Sevvy stops him. Unfortunately, hitting Sevvy with the shovel proves useless as Star decided to burn the bag, thinking that Sevvy is still her father regardless of what he might have done.
Unwavering Determination
Nothing stopped Maya from doing her job. Alan Wiest’s (Breckin Meyer) brash actions, Matthew’s odd behavior, neither Ezra’s bold moves against Maya got in the way of her investigation. Thanks to CJ Emerson’s (Merrin Dungey) digging, the team has another crucial piece of evidence they could use against Sevvy. Julianne was caught in CCTV footage at a local restaurant along with Jessica hours before her death. Having a word with her at first did not work, so Maya decided to focus on a different problem: her public image. Thanks to Matthew’s wife, Effy Collier (Daniella Alonso), Naya had the chance to let the public know her stance through a morning talk show, ensuring that she keeps her job as the lead prosecutor.
Maya drives home to the sight of Julianne standing on her porch. Off the record, Julianne explains why she and Jessica were together hours before her death. Jessica asked for advice about Sevvy’s abusive nature, but in that instance, decided to stay, thinking that Sevvy will change. Julianne tries to convince her that Sevvy is a hopeless case, but she does not listen. Just as Julianne left, Riv comes over to Maya’s place, happily telling her about punching Ezra’s face. The mention of Ezra’s name made Maya realize that someone must have tipped Ezra about the CCTV footage.
Not so Off the Hook
Loni Kampoor (Mouzam Makkar) had enough of playing Ezra’s snitch game. Because of this, she decides to find his weak spot. Ezra regularly gambled in a sketchy establishment, so Loni uses this to her advantage. After gathering a considerable amount of evidence as well as having her friends in the IRS check on Ezra’s files, Loni confronts Ezra after he finishes gambling. Ezra could do nothing but listen as Loni made her goodbye speech. However, while Loni was at the office, Maya comes in with a squad of police officers. The entire District Attorney’s Office is placed on lockdown because Maya finally found out that one of them is Ezra’s mole. Good luck, Loni.
‘The Fix’ Season 1, Episode 4 ‘Scandal’ Final Verdict
Each episode seems to show Ezra and Maya alternately throwing punches at each other. Just as Ezra rises to the top, Maya finds something that brings him down, often lower than where he started. Also, the Johnsons’ family turmoil speaks terrible news for him and the case. Now that Ezra fired Ares, things are not looking good for Sevvy. That is, of course, if he wakes up.
The Fix continues Monday, April 15th with ‘Lie to Me’ at 10/9c on ABC.
