'The Fix' Season 1, Episode 3 'The Wire' Recap: Stealthy Tactics

The Fix ends with a huge revelation as the prosecution brings a ghost to speak. The public now at the defense, waiting for their next move. Despite the big reveal, the prosecutor’s team does not stop at the press conference. Instead, they pull the net in and find themselves an asset to the case.

On Monday night’s episode of The Fix, Maya Travis (Robin Tunney) and the District Attorneys land a powerful strike against Severen ‘Sevvy’ Johnson (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Ezra Wolf (Scott Cohen). After releasing Jessica Meyer’s (Taylor Kalupa) tapes to the press, Maya finds an asset that could incriminate Johnson. Meanwhile, Sevvy and Wolf start to disagree with each other amid the chaos happening on their end.

Lawyer Drama

Emotions continue to stir among the lawyers involved in Jessica’s case. Loni Kampoor (Mouzam Makkar) finds herself caught in the middle of two sides. Perhaps it is not too late for her to decide which team she is on. Now, Loni considers Maya as more of a co-worker rather than a threat. However, the sudden change of heart is not of pure motive as Ezra intimidates Loni into continuing her covert work for him. Still, Loni decides not to reveal anything to Ezra, trying to figure out a way to get him out of her hair.

Matthew Collier (Adam Rayner), on the other hand, is a different story. He and his wife, Effy (Daniella Alonso) are pushing for his promotion to head of the District Attorney’s office. Because of this, Matthew does whatever he can to make his credentials look good, like attempting to convict Sevvy Johnson. Although having Maya back with them makes it hard for him to control his emotions, Matthew persists, thinking about his career’s future.

Jessica’s videotapes appealed to the American people, including the District Attorneys’ connections. CJ Emerson (Merrin Dungey) gathers enough intel to locate an ideal asset: Sevvy’s mistress, Dia Briseño (Vanessa Vasquez). Thinking that she killed Jessica, Sevvy stormed Dia’s house but ended up apologizing to her. Robin and CJ, however, dismiss this as Sevvy’s modus operandi when targetting women he likes. With that, Robin and CJ use a forgotten parking violation to have her in their custody.

Thanks to Loni’s convincing, Dia agrees to wear a wire while meeting with Sevvy. Setting the meeting up took quite some time, so Maya, Cj, and Loni stayed in an unmarked van outside of the hotel set as Dia and Sevvy’s meeting place. Finally, the door opens to the hotel suite, but to Dia’s surprise, a man with a cane walks into the room. Buck Neal (Robert Ray Wisdom) offers Dia money in exchange for her silence, telling her that Sevvy does not wish to see him anymore. Because of this, Dia steals a car and drives straight to his mansion.

After calming down, Sevvy and Dia talk about what Maya and the team wanted to hear. In the mansion, Sevvy does his best to try to reassure Dia, going as far as promising her a future together. Also, Sevvy reveals Wolf’s developed alibi to clear his name. Lastly, Sevvy takes Dia out through a secret exit of his mansion so as not to encounter the paparazzi. Maya, CJ, and Loni now have everything they wanted from Sevvy.

Lawyer v.s. Client

Jessica’s videotapes brought the Johnsons further apart. Gabriel Johnson (Alex Saxon) left the mansion upon Sevvy’s arrival. Star Johnson (Chasten Harmon), on the other hand, cries in anguish as she watched Jessica on live television. The video had Wolf schedule interviews on National Television in a desperate attempt to clear Sevvy’s name. Also, Wolf threatened to end his ex-wife, Dr. Carys Daly’s (Lynn Collins) medical career if she did not help wolf come up with an alibi for a client they have in common: Sevvy.

Things got worse for Wolf and Sevvy when Maya confronts Wolf hours after she and her team record Sevvy and Dia’s conversation. Thanks to Dia, Maya now has evidence to not only convict Sevvy but to help disbar Wolf as well. Also, Dr. Daly’s signed affidavit is deemed useless. Furious, Wolf lashes out on Sevvy the next day. Sevvy, in turn, smashes a chair through a window in Wolf’s office. Eventually, Sevvy calms down as he realizes who his real enemy is: Maya.

Wolf makes the most desperate move a lawyer would have done against an opponent: sending a henchman after a loved one.

‘The Fix’ Season 1, Episode 3 ‘The Wire’ Final Verdict

Sevvy’s true, violent nature in this episode springs out like a fully opened faucet. He stops at nothing whenever he is angered. Also, Wolf’s dirty tactics seem to have lost its touch at first, but when Buck arrives in River ‘Riv’ Allgood’s (Marc Blucas) horse range, he crosses the line between professionalism and desperation. A death or two would not be a surprise in the next episode.

The Fix continues Monday, April 8th, with ‘Scandal’ at 10/9c on ABC.
