It may be a while before we get Captain Kirk and his crew back on the big screen, but Paramount+ is bringing us to the brig of the USS Enterprise with their upcoming spinoff Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The series is set to premiere in May, and we have some key art which shows the return of the Enterprise.
This was shared by Captain Pike actor Anson Mount:

The series is said to be set a decade before the events of Star Trek the Original Series and will follow the Enterprise crew before one James T. Kirk took over. This time around, it’s Captain Pike at the helm, but fans will recognize familiar faces like Spock (Ethan Peck) and Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding). There are also new faces onboard like Number One (Rebecca Romijin), and it’s possible we could get guest appearances from characters in other Trek shows like Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) from Discovery.
It’s also worth noting that Christina Chong is playing La’an Noonien-Singh—a possible descendant of one of Trek’s most iconic villains: Kahn.
With all these connections to the old Trek, it’s very likely the show could end where the Original Series starts, but with parallel timelines being a thing, we could get some more surprising stories down the line. Who knows, maybe we can even meet a young Jim Kirk before he takes on the captain’s chair?
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on Paramount+ on May 5.
