The Duffer Brothers Regretted Killing Off Chrissy in Stranger Things

Stranger Things is full of beloved characters who have been killed too soon like Barb in Season One and Bob in Season 2, and the latest season had everyone mourning the death of cheerleader Chrissy (Grace Van Dien)—who was only available in one episode, but has captured the hearts of fans with her chemistry with Eddie (Joseph Quinn). As it turns out, even the Duffers regret killing her off.
Talking to TV Line, the Duffers admit they didn’t realize the chemistry between Eddie and Chrissy because they had killed Chrissy before they shot the ‘drug deal’ scene between the two. Matt Duffer explains,“We always have those moments [of ‘What have we done?’]… We shot the quote-unquote drug-deal scene in the woods pretty late, actually, into shooting.” Ross Duffer adds, “We had already killed Chrissy when we shot that.”
Ever since the fourth season premiered, there have been fans shipping ‘Eddie the Freak’ and ‘Chrissy the Cheerleader’. We don’t really know what made Chrissy so popular among fans, but I guess it would have something to do with how nice she was being to Eddie, despite her character usually expected to be mean to a punk like him. Then again, we already had the mean popular girls with Eleven’s story, so having Chrissy be a mean cheerleader might be redundant.
Who knows, maybe there’s a way for the series to salvage Vecna’s victims, especially since the Upside Down is hinted to deal with some kind of time travel. Then again, I think Chrissy should remain dead to further solidify the current threat of Vecna.
