Published 7 years ago
The Crossing is about a group of refugees from a war-torn future seeking for salvation in the current period, known to them as “The Long Peace.” Their methods of traveling to the present came with a sacrifice. When local law enforcement finds the survivors, they find themselves in a situation bigger than what they had imagined. Now, desperate survivors seek a way out while the local law enforcement tries to get to the bottom of the situation.
In this week’s episode of The Crossing, a homeless woman who was arrested during the riots of last week’s episode became an unexpected asset to Jude Ellis (Steve Zahn) and Nestor Rosario’s (Rick Gomez) search for the truth of what happened to the survivors. As Paul (Rob Campbell) becomes suspicious of what his fate might turn out to be, Naomi’s (Josette Canilao) influence in the camp stirs up trouble and leads to a potential casualty.
The Great Escape
We are taken to the events before the second migration. In the year 2194, desperate persons heed Grace (Carmel Amit) and Diana’s (Brook Smith) call to rescue. Numerous hopeful individuals assemble in front of the portal. Reece (Natalie Martinez) arrives with Leah (Bailey Skodje). She warns them about the Apex threat arriving in approximately 20 minutes. An explosion outside causes the people to panic that lead to a stampede. The people break through the line of the guards in the hopes of finding salvation in The Long Peace.
An Outbound Mission
Rebecca (Simone Kessell) reflects on the night that her daughter, Rachel (Milah Thompson) was taken away by Apex. She sits beside Naomi, talking to her about her experience. Naomi encourages her to join her in her undertaking that would happen that evening. She explains that she was here for a reason, just as Rebecca is, so they owe it to themselves to find their purpose in this time of peace. Rebecca ponders on this opportunity presented to her.
Agent Bryce Foster (Luc Roderique) has a meeting with his men. He makes sure that each of them would be prepared in the event of another attack. He does not want another casualty on their side. He has Roy Aronson (Grant Harvey) alongside Carter (Devielle Johnson) repaint graffiti that has emerged around the camp. After giving general instructions, he dismisses the men.
Caleb (Marcuis W. Harris) and a few other survivors notice Roy and Carter cover-up the tag containing the initials “WDTL.” Roy asks them what it means, and he replies that they would not understand. Carter tells them to disperse. Naomi talks to Agent Foster. She tells him that in Cuba, a devastating earthquake would happen at 4:35 PM in their timezone.
Agent Foster finds this information strange. She tries to bribe him into helping her, so he tells her to head back to her cabin. Roy talks to Hannah (Kelley Missal). He tells her that he gave her locket to Marshall (Tommy Bastow). After this, he tells her that they cannot keep talking the way they do because of the heightened security, so Hannah left. When Carter asks him about Hannah, he says that it was nothing.
Rebecca and Caleb talk about the graffiti tags. She then reveals that she is in communication with Naomi. Caleb warns her about Naomi, telling her the possibility of the danger posed by associating with Naomi. Agent Foster was alarmed when some of the agents that were watching the news mention the same thing that Naomi had told him. He receives a call from Craig. They meet in a restaurant somewhere in the town and discuss the situation at the camp. Craig asks about Naomi and Agent Foster replies that nothing was out of the ordinary. After this, Craig receives a call from Eve, so he left.
Caleb confronts Naomi inside the cafeteria. He tells her to stay away from his wife, Rebecca. Naomi points out that the reason behind their journey was to be free, and that Caleb was not doing anything to have it. He says that he does aim to become free, but without her help. She reasons out that it was Rebecca who reached out to her, that Rebecca willingly talked to her about the loss of her daughter. Caleb gives her a final warning, then he leaves.
Hannah approaches Roy who is in the cafeteria. He gives him flowers, which meant ‘sorry’ in their time. She apologizes for her behavior and her disregard for Roy’s feelings. Two agents pass by them, so Roy keeps the flowers hidden then Hannah left him. Caleb tries to have Rebecca open up to him about their loss. Rebecca was about to open up until Caleb asks her if what she said was one of the lies Naomi had told her to say. Offended, she leaves the cabin.
Agent Foster decides to talk to Naomi again. This time, she tries to make a deal with him. If he helped her and four others leave the camp, he would be rewarded handsomely. He declines, and Naomi dismisses this, saying that perhaps he was not ready. That evening, Caleb decides to write a note as his apology to Rebecca along with some flowers. He decides to go to sleep. Inside Naomi’s cabin, Rebecca, as well as three other survivors, join Naomi. She gives her a speech about their new mission. EJ (Tristan Shire), an HSI Agent, opens the door and tells them to move. Rebecca joins them in the last minute.
As they make their way out of the camp, Agent Foster stops them, unhooking his gun from the holster as he tells EJ to give him his gun. A shot was fired which alarmed everyone in the camp, survivors and agents alike. Roy and Caleb were the first to respond to the scene, seeing Agent Foster lying on the floor, bleeding. Roy calls for back up just as Hannah approaches them.
Paul’s Fate
Paul is eating in a house where Eve has him stay in temporarily. He starts asking her the relevance of his stay there as well as what really happened at the camp. He was visibly annoyed and intrigued by what was happening. Having his fate at her hands made him uncertain. Their conversation ends in an argument that makes Eve tell him why she left without him. He leaves him alone, again.
Jude and Nestor decide to rest for a moment as they continue to work on finding out the members of the earlier migration. While they discuss what they could put together, Deputy Rowlins (Ryan McDonell) tells Jude that he has a phone call. When he answers it, this turns out to be Paul. Paul tells him about his current situation. He mentions that he was asked to make a recording that states that he, along with the other survivors at the camp, are members of a cult. He wants Jude to know that it was not true and that it could be used against them. Jude asks what he said on the tape, then Paul replies that he said that they wanted to die. Jude asks more questions, but Paul puts the phone down. Nestor asks about what the call was about, and Jude tells him that the survivors in the camp faced death.
Eve and Noah experiment on a rat in their laboratory. Noah expresses his dislike over what they were doing, and Eve asks him if he was wavering. He argues that he was just showing compassion. She reasons out that everything that they were doing was necessary.
The Hidden Truth
Jude pins photos of the homeowners around Emma’s last known location based on the data from her keys. Nestor tells him about the last of the prisoners from the riots. Confused, Jude decides to talk to the prisoner. She says that her name is Mary Smith. He could not get any government issue identification from her. Mary mentions that she is homeless and that is the reason behind why she does not have any of those documents. Jude asks her questions about current news, and she tries to stall him, so Jude has Nestor do a background check on her.
Nestor finds nothing about Mary Smith. Jude airs his suspicion over her, saying that he senses something off. Nestor points out the possibility that they may be overthinking, and he urges Jude to look at Mary as someone who probably needs help. Jude decides to talk to her one last time, revealing what he knows about the camp. She says that she does not understand what he is saying, so he let her go.
Jude and Nestor use a tracking device to follow after Mary. They find her in an abandoned house. She is surprised that they were able to find her and she even threatens to report them but Jude points out that she has none of the legal documents she would need to have him arrested. Mary tells him her actual name, which is Diana. Nestor finds a strange, crude contraption in one of the rooms in the house; something that Mary was working on.
Back in the police station, Jude and Nestor talk to Diana. She tells them the events before the second migration. The portal access was overcrowded and she and her wife, Grace was not able to calibrate the machine in time, resulting in them ending up in the water. They were not supposed to join the others, but when they heard the Apex coming, they knew that they had to leave.
Jude asks why she was not with the others who made it. Apparently, she regained consciousness in the beach. When she saw the agents, she thought that they would end up being incarcerated. She was not wrong. He brings up the earlier migration, and Diana turns out to be the person responsible for sending them out, saying that their mission was to prevent the rise of Apex. When she figured out that their mission had failed, she called out to the people who wanted to leave. She did not expect them to be as numerous as they were.
Jude decides to show photos of his suspects to Diana. She instantly recognizes Craig Lindauer (Jay Karnes) whose real name was Noah and Greta Pryor (Melissa McGraw) whose name was Eve. He reveals what they have done to the other survivors in the camp. Nestor asks about the contraption that she was making. Diana tells them that in theory, it monitors changes in the atmosphere triggered by another migration. The device was essentially a detector. She was not sure if it worked. Nestor points out that the snow in the mountains was unusual at this time of the year.
Jude tells Diana about the tape and the person who were possibly behind it, which was the members of the earlier migration. She points out that it does not make sense to her. He replies that the survivors could risk exposing them and their plans. Realizing this, she asks him how they could stop them. Just as Jude was saying how hard it would be to stop them because of how powerful they were, Deputy Rowlins tells Jude that an FBI Agent was asking about Diana.
The FBI Agent introduces herself as Jennifer Doyle (Barbara Eve Harris). She tells Jude that they kept Mary out of the system she is one of their informants. He stalls her by saying that he told one of his men to send Mary home. Jude enters his office then he lets Diana look through the blinds, asking if she recognized the FBI agent. Jennifer turns out to be part of the earlier migration. Her real name is Delilah, and she was the group’s killer.
Jude exits his office, telling Agent Doyle that the officer he sent released her two hours ago. Before she could say anything, Jude tells her that he cannot spare any resources to help her. She then asks Jude to hand over all the recordings as well as the criminal documents that he has about Mary, but Jude tells her that she has to go through the proper procedure, just like everyone else, regardless of her status in the FBI. She leaves the police station.
Inside Marshall’s RV, Jude and Diana go over what they could do. As Jude layouts their plans, he realizes that even if they do escape the camp, they would still be hunted down. Diana presents a solution. She says that she could construct that would make them hidden. Upon hearing this, Marshall agrees to help them. Jude decides to push through with this plan. Nestor keeps Diana’s first device in the evidence lockup.
Craig says goodnight to Rachel who was working on her assignment. Rachel has the mark given by Apex on her shoulder, just as Naomi does.
The Crossing continues Saturday, June 9th, with “The Androcles Option” and the season finale, titled “These are the Names,” at 10/9c on ABC.
