In this week’s episode of “The Crossing,” titled “Pax Americana,” an injured Reece (Natalie Martinez) takes refuge at a local convenience store after her brief encounter with Craig Lindauer’s (Jay Karnes) Strike Team. Jude (Steve Zahn) and Oliver Ellis (Christian Cooper) finally get to spend quality time which unfortunately leads to a disaster. Hannah (Kelley Missal) is under threat from a fellow refugee so she decides to escape, discovering the world outside the campsite. Dr. Sophie Forbin (Georgina Haig) is assigned to diagnose the threat posed by Leah’s (Bailey Skodje) infection. In the midst of this, Emma (Sandrine Holt) senses something amiss which leads her to be suspicious about who is in-charge of the operation.
New Threats
“Pax Americana” takes off immediately after Reece’s escape from the boathouse. Reece recovers from her wounds, taking one bullet that had managed to hit her. Back at Craig’s makeshift camp, his men plan their next move. Eventually, his Strike Team picks up her blood trail all the way to the convenience store where they find a warning written in blood: “Back off or DIE.”
At the police station, Jude checks in on Nestor Rosario (Rick Gomez) and tells him to contact him in case a situation arises. Nestor and Oliver have a short exchange right before Jude and Oliver leave the station. Then, Nestor sets Marshall (Tommy Bastow) free from his cell. Nestor tells Tommy to move on and to pull himself together. Craig opens the door to the room in which he detained Thomas (Luke Camilleri). He sets him free under one condition: he has to tell the rest of the refugees to keep their mouths shut and to simply follow orders. Hannah is seen eating her breakfast when a mysterious man approaches her. He proceeds to threaten Hannah into revealing information that would place Hannah’s survival in danger. This drives Hannah to ask Roy Aronson (Grant Harvey) to get her out of the camp, but Roy declines her request.
Quality Time
Jude and Oliver arrive at the Harbor in time for the celebration of Harbor Fest. Oliver was disappointed at first since he thought that they were going fishing in some place where it is only the two of them. This changed when Jude was able to convince Oliver to change his mind and try to enjoy the festivities. After all, there was junk food. When Jude is about to leave the car, he sees Reece’s stuffed toy jammed in the passenger’s car seat. He remembers Reece asking him he thinks that her daughter would like it. He dismisses this thought, and he proceeds to get out of the car.
Predator and Prey
Reece ends up in a forest, miles away from the convenience store. Her heightened senses pick up the sounds made by the strike team. Their commander (Steve Harris) instructs them to search the entire forest, with her blood trail leaving them at a dead end. He prepares the device that he had shown Craig and places it in the backseat. Roy leaves the campsite early using his truck. He gets stuck in traffic, so he leaves the car to see the situation. While Roy is outside, Hannah emerges out of the back of the truck. Her cardigan gets caught one of the locks on the truck so she takes it off, allowing her a split second moment to stay out of Roy’s line of sight.
Questions
Emma and receives Craig’s phone call. Craig checks on Leah’s condition, and Emma asks Craig to justify his decision to call-in a Strike Team to eliminate Reece. Craig dismisses her inquiry by telling her that it was her job to give him Jude’s location and that since she was unable to make Jude an asset, he made the call. Craig then hangs up on Emma, threatening her that if Emma does not perform her job well, he will find someone else to do it. While Emma stands at the entrance of Leah’s tent, she sees Thomas talking to the refugees, telling them to do exactly as they are told as well as to stop telling people about their origin.
The Infection
Dr. Sophie Forbin meets Craig at a Hotel in Seattle. He proceeds to brief Dr. Forbin regarding the situation. To her surprise, she starts immediately, since Craig had actually led her to a Helicopter which would take her to the campsite. Reece hides behind a tree, checking on her wounds, seeing how they have almost healed. One of the soldiers find her makeshift arm sling and he signals his comrades right before Reece takes him out. Dr. Forbin finally arrives at the campsite and is escorted by an HSI agent. She meets Emma, and they have a brief exchange about the virus. Emma tells her that she can do anything she can in order to save Leah. Weighing the seriousness of the situation, Dr. Forbin makes a disclaimer, saying that she is here to stop the pandemic, not save a little girl.
Meant to Find You
Claire (Shannon Chan-Kent) talks to Marshall in his trailer. She expresses concern over the Thorn Beach incident, saying how what she knows does not add up to what is being shown by the media. Marshall tells her to not worry about it since she cannot do anything about it. Claire finds a large earring on the sofa and asks Marshall about it, and Marshall makes up a lame excuse. She leaves the trailer in an upset manner. Jude and Oliver try out the milk booth. Oliver throws the ball and manages to hit two out of three bottles, so Jude pays to give Oliver another try. Oliver takes down all three the second time around and he wins a gray shark stuffed toy. Hannah aimlessly wanders around, fascinated by everything she sees. She tries to talk to a man who ignores her until she meets Marshall. We are then taken to a flashback. Hannah holds a locket in her hand with Marshall’s photo in it. Then, when she gains consciousness in the water, she loses the locket.
Hannah talks to Marshall, asking for his help. Marshall buys her some food which she finds impressive. They have a friendly conversation, and Marshall tells her that he plans to move to Los Angeles. Hannah discourages him to do this, saying that he might be meant to stay there. After this, she is distracted by the band playing music on stage, so they go to watch them. Marshall finds her behavior strange.
Confrontation
Emma talks to Thomas in her cabin. She mentions how she thinks that the conversation she and he had was different from the conversation he and her colleagues had. Thomas tries to talk his way out of it by saying that he lied about the information, that there was no “earlier migration”. He said that this was his way of getting attention. He was scared of the situation so he wanted to feel important. Seeing how these things do not reconcile, Emma asks him what the reason behind his lie is: if he feels scared or if he wanted to feel important. He was unable to answer her question. Jude is at the Police Station as part of the celebration of ‘Harbor Fest’. Kids are given a chance to be the Sheriff Deputy, so he takes charge of handing them toy badges and toy handcuffs. While he hands out the toys, Emma enters the room so he asks a police officer to take over for him. He and Emma have a conversation about what she was able to deduce, but Jude was unwilling to help her. Dr. Forbin enters Leah’s isolation room and checks up on her. To her surprise, Leah’s condition improves. She asks Leah if she had received treatment for the symptoms before, and she said that she did and that it was her mother’s blood that had saved her.
The soldiers from the strike team continue to search the jungle when one of them sees their fallen comrade. Reece attacks them from above, taking them out one by one. Dr. Forbin talks to Rebecca (Simone Kessell) about Leah. Overcome by grief, Rebecca dismisses what Dr. Forbin has told her, saying that Leah does not know what she is talking about. Caleb (Marcuis Harris) sees the HSI staff unload more supplies into the campsite. He asks Thomas about how long they had said they were to stay there and he raises this point. Thomas finds this offensive so he tells Caleb that he would be the last person to leave the camp if he continues to ask so many questions.
Roy finds Hannah’s cardigan at the back of his truck. Marshall and Hannah enjoy the band’s performance. Marshall tells Hannah to be careful next time, that she should not ask random people for help. Roy finally finds Hannah, and he proceeds to apprehend her. Marshall tries to fight Roy, but Roy shows him his badge and Jude enters the scene to have Marshall back off. Finally, Roy and Hannah leave. Reece eventually makes her way to the last man standing. He uses a device that emits a radio frequency to disorient her, but Reece overcame its effects and was able to neutralize him.
Answers
Jude buys Oliver ice cream. While eating, Oliver asks him what he has done that had forced Jude to move away from him. Jude tries to cheer him up, saying that none of it was his fault and that Jude had to leave Oliver and his mom for their safety. Jude also tells him that he would do anything to keep them safe. Oliver finds this reasonable as he hugs his father.
Emma searches their Departments website in order to find information about their entire operation. She finds nothing there, so she calls their field office. No matter what her queries were, she was still unable to find any information. Roy and Hannah stop at some point of the highway. He asks her why she had escaped, and she tells her that when she returns, she would either be hated or that they are about to find a reason to hate her. Hannah does not tell him what the nature of the situation is, so Roy decides to simply let her back in the back of the truck to remain undetected just as she had escaped. Upon Hannah’s return, she is greeted by the mysterious man in her cabin. She tries to drive him out of her cabin but he gains the upper hand and he voices threats against her.
Mysteries
Dr. Forbin looks at Leah’s vitals and sees how they have almost completely got rid of the virus. While she looks at Leah resting on her bed, Rebecca enters the room. She tells her that no one is immune to the virus, no one except Apex. Reece drives the van that the soldiers had used to make her way into the town proper. In the midst of the fireworks display, a loud crash was heard and Jude investigates its origin. He finds the body of Reece’s last adversary with a not inside his mouth, saying: “NOW YOU SUFFER SHERIFF.” Immediately, he heads back to where Oliver was standing only to find his gray shark stuffed toy. Oliver had disappeared.
