Picking up immediately after “The Androcles Option,” the finale of The Crossing sees Jude Ellis (Steve Zahn), Nestor Rosario (Rick Gomez), Marshall (Tommy Bastow), and Reece (Natalie Martinez) save the survivors from the hands of Craig Lindauer (Jay Karnes) and his associates. While Craig and Greta Pryor (Melinda McGraw) desperately try to put their efforts to dispose of the survivors, their plan fails. Meanwhile, Dr. Sophie Forbin becomes a victim of the solution she formed from Reece’s genetic material.
The Path To Freedom
Nestor drives his police car through the gate set up by the HSI. After Craig finishes talking to the survivors, he meets Nestor. Nestor demanded custody of Marshall, who went to the camp the previous evening. As Marshall is taken out of a cabin, Roy Aronson (Grant Harvey) punches him, secretly handing him a note. As Nestor and Marshall leave the camp, both confirm each other’s objectives: Caleb (Marcuis W. Harris) has rounded up the survivors, and Reece has entered the camp through the police car.
Caleb meets Roy in a secluded part of the camp. They wait for Reece to arrive. Once she does, they go over each other’s roles in the plan and proceed to place it in action. Once all the guards are eliminated, Reece tosses a radio to Jude’s direction. Jude finds the receiver and uses it to taunt Craig. Craig orders a search after finding the guards bound and unarmed inside a cabin. The search ends as Roy, and two other HSI Agents find all the cabins to be empty. After this, Craig orders them to track the signal of the radio Jude used.
The survivors remain huddled up inside Naomi’s (Josette Canilao) cabin. Leah (Bailey Skodje) reads the writings on the wall and tells Hannah (Kelley Missal) about a pattern she noticed. As Hannah tells Leah to remain silent, Thomas (Luke Camilleri) starts to panic, but Caleb calms him down. That evening outside the camp, Jude and Nestor wait for the power on the electrical fences to be cut. Marshall arrives, happily reporting that he has acquired the bus.
Roy opens the container van that housed the camp’s power generators. He cuts the power out successfully, so Jude and Nestor cut through the fence. Some HSI Agents track the signal of Jude’s radio, only to find it stuck on the fence. Jude and Nestor cut their way in then they part ways as Jude had to enter the camp to wipe out the data about the survivors using Diana’s (Brooke Smith) device.
Craig and Lydia Doyle (Barbara Eve Harris) detain Roy in the server room. At that same moment, Jude finally reaches the survivors. He leads them out to the direction of the breach they have made. The survivors hurriedly make their way out. Reece and Leah are finally reunited as Jude says goodbye to finish his objective. When Jude reaches the server room, he hears the voices of Craig and Roy.
Jude follows the source of the voice and opens the door, pointing his weapon at both Craig and Lydia. Lydia reveals that she has a weapon and she points it at Roy’s head, prompting Jude to lower his gun. Craig picks it up. Outside, Hannah holds the fence to get people through. As the power comes on, A gunshot is fired. Hannah gets electrocuted, but Reece pulls her away almost instantly.
Craig shoots Lydia again to make sure that she is dead. As Roy leaves the room, then Jude and Craig talk. Caleb carries Hannah who manages to recover. Marshall smiles at her, relieved. Jude shows Diana’s device to Craig, who makes the final decision in his role as one of the people who migrated from the future.
Absolute Safety
Jude wakes up from a bad dream where Apex controls his family. Nestor knocks on his door, reminding him of a court proceeding they had to go to. When they arrive, Jude gives his statement to the court. He finishes his testimony by saying that he barely knew Craig and that he had no idea where he was. He and Nestor walk out of the court relieved.
Jude drives to a farm located in a safe place. He hands Caleb and Hannah the papers confirming their new identities. While Rebecca (Simone Kessell) had not been found yet, Jude assures Caleb that he will inform him about further developments. Before he goes outside, he hands Caleb a piece of paper. Reece and Leah arrive, telling Jude about his possible involvement in Naomi’s scheme.
Starting A New Life
Caleb goes to a university. He finds his daughter, Rachel (Eva Day). They have an emotional reunion. Elsewhere, Greta Pryor and her associates plan their next move. Since Craig could not be contacted anymore, she orders Drew (Michael Kruse-Dahl) to track and neutralize Dr. Sophie Forbin (Georgina Haig). At the police station, Jude and Nestor set their new objectives as Roy, who had recently been transferred to their station, brings the evidence to the lockup.
When Drew arrives in the hospital, he finds Sophie unconscious on a bed. Before he could inject what could presumably be poison into Sophie, she grabs his arm and breaks it. She leaves her room, and a nurse finds Drew on the floor. Sophie walks away with a strange color in her eyes.
‘The Crossing’ Overall Verdict
The series finale of The Crossing brings closure to the main plot of season 1 very well. It also gives the viewers the possibilities of how a second season would play out. This episode did not disappoint. The main characters became the best versions of themselves. Also, the antagonists were realistically formidable.
Unfortunately, The Crossing was not renewed for a second season. Still, this episode was successful in giving closure to the characters as well as their stories. The Crossing is one of those shows that deserves a renewal. It had an excellent storyline as well as talented actors and a fantastic script. This show deserved better.
