'The Crossing' Season 1, Episode 10 'The Androcles Option' Recap: Rescue Op [SPOILERS]

The penultimate episode of ABC’s The Crossing builds up the intensity for the short-lived series’ finale. While this episode had a noticeable slow pace, it laid out events that helped prevent loopholes. The main characters had an equal share of screen time as well as different creative roles to play. Also, subplots introduced were excellent. This episode is the prime example of a great way to start the end.

In this episode of The Crossing, Jude Ellis (Steve Zahn) and Nestor Rosario (Rick Gomez) form a plan to break out the refugees in the camp. Dr. Sophie Forbin (Georgina Haig) arrives, giving them Reece’s (Natalie Martinez) location. They are forced to embark on two difficult missions while time is running out. Meanwhile, Marshall (Tommy Bastow) heads to the camp in a task that is not what it seems to be.

Disposal

Craig Lindauer (Jay Karnes) and Greta Pryor (Melinda McGraw) prepare to have their plans enforced. As Craig has arrangements made in the camp, Greta heads back home to her husband, Paul (Rob Campbell). On the way, Craig brings Leah (Bailey Skodje) along with him who is promptly met by Caleb (Marcuis W. Harris), still grieving for the disappearance of his wife. Rebecca (Simone Kessell).

Craig announces that they are going to set the survivors free. A few arrangements needed, such as the finalization of their papers as well as the distribution of vaccines. Meanwhile, Greta gives Paul his new legal documents confirming his new identity. Paul does not seem too enthusiastic about this idea.

Craig talks to Caleb in Naomi’s (Josette Canilao) cabin. Craig learns that Apex abducted Naomi and that Rachel, whom he had adopted as his daughter, turns out to be Caleb and Rebecca’s daughter whom Apex seized. Troubled, Craig ends their conversation as he hurriedly headed to the HSI’s cabin.

Greta takes Paul to their son’s piano recital. Paul was speechless when he met their son, Aaron (Kiefer O’Reilly). After this, they arrive home and celebrate their son’s life. The air shifts as Greta plays a recording of Paul and Jude’s conversation on the phone. Greta brands Paul a traitor as he choked to his death due to the wine that Greta had poisoned.

Craig’s digging about Caleb and Rebecca was interrupted when Greta calls him. Greta informs him of Paul’s death through the chemical they had synthesized for killing the refugees. Craig is surprised to at what she did to Paul. An unaffected Greta tells him to do what must be done, just as she did.

A Guilty Conscience

Mason Spencer (Lee Majdoub) continues Sophie’s work on the antidote she had synthesized through Reece’s blood. While the specimen had been primed and ready for use, Mason has Sophie reconsider her life before taking the specimen. However, Sophie’s resolve on taking the specimen remained unchanged as she had no other options.

Jude was surprised to find Sophie outside his garage. He was disappointed when he finds out that Sophie did not tell him that she knew where Reece was. When Nestor arrives, Jude presents the possibility of having Reece help them. With Reece’s abilities, they would have a better chance at rescuing the survivors from the camp.

Reece has visions of her daughter asking for her help. Unable to escape, she cries out Leah’s name. Vivek (Rowan Schlosberg) who monitors Reece’s condition turns up the volume of the high-frequency sound. Reece’s heart stops so he leaves. Consequently, Reece regained consciousness and was finally able to escape.

Jude and Sophie head to Reece’s location. Jude finds Reece incapacitating guards. When they were about to leave, Vivek holds Sophie as a hostage, prompting Jude and Reece to bring their weapons down. However, Jude had another gun hidden on his back which Reece uses to shoot Vivek, who gives her Leah’s location right before they leave.

Reece helps Sophie sit while they are both in her lab. Reece destroys the vial containing the formula Sophie had made, telling her that she would not let Apex come into this point of time. When Reece left, Sophie takes her backup solution and injects it to herself. When Mason returns, he finds Sophie who had suddenly recovered from her condition, but shortly after this, collapses in his arms.

Setting The Plan

Jude and Nestor take some of the equipment Diana (Brooke Smith) needed in the construction of the machine. The machine, upon completion, would erase all the data that Craig and the HSI had about the survivors, letting them start new lives in peace. Before they continue, Jude asks Nestor one last time if he is sure about his decision to join him, but Nestor shows nothing but determination to save the survivor’s lives.

Inside Jude’s garage, Marshall talks to Diana as she finishes working on the device. Marshall weighs his options as he asks Diana an existentialist question about their destinies. Jude comes in with one of the things Diana needed. They are alerted by a noise outside, so Jude carefully searches for the source of the noise. He finds Sophie asking for his help.

Marshall brings a few more materials that were needed for the device to Nestor. Nestor thanks him and tells him to go but he insists that this was his destiny. He also shows her Hannah’s (Kelley Missal) locket that had his face in it. Realizing that Nestor would not let him, Marshall leaves.

Diana continues to work on the device when Jude’s laptop receives a notification about Naomi’s group. Grace (Carmel Amit), her wife, was part of the group, so she leaves to look for her immediately. Nestor stops her and convinces her to at least finish the device before she leaves. At that same moment,

Marshall arrives at the camp, demanding to see Hannah. Marshall punches Roy Aronson (Grant Harvey), so the HSI agents restrain and take him into custody. As they left, Roy finds a note that Marshall had hidden in his pocket, and realizes what is about to go down. Jude and Reece arrive in his house. Nestor tells them about Diana’s decision to leave as well as the completion of the device.

Caleb talks to Leah who is staying with him in his cabin. She expresses a dreadful feeling she had over what would happen to them, but Caleb reassures her that everything will be alright. Roy arrives at his cabin, warning him about the impending danger Craig had imposed on him and his fellow survivors. Elsewhere in the camp, Craig has Lydia Doyle (Barbara Eve Harris) torture Marshall.
