‘The Conners’ Season Finale ‘We Continue to Truck’ Recap: Life Goes On

The Conners face a choice that will change their lives forever. Anyone given the opportunity to move out of Lanford would usually grab it immediately. Making this decision is no easy task, and something else makes this impossible for one of the Conner sisters. Also, everyone has a limit to their tolerance. No matter how strong love is towards a person, some things cannot and should not use understanding as an excuse.
In the season finale of The Conners, Darlene Conner (Sara Gilbert) reconsiders moving to Chicago with Ben (Jay R. Ferguson) as David Healy (Johnny Galecki) makes a surprise visit. Meanwhile, Jackie Harris (Laurie Metcalf) catches Peter (Matthew Broderick) cheating on her. As this happens, Emilio (Rene Rosado) and Becky Conner (Lecy Goranson) fall in love.
Taken Advantage Of
When Peter comes home to Jackie preparing the laundry, he asks to add some of the clothes he used in a play. In his laundry, Jackie finds a bra and questions him about it. Peter dismisses this as a mistake, saying that he accidentally grabbed the bra since they had a shared dressing room. Unsatisfied, Jackie decides to do a little digging. The next day, Jackie, almost finishing a bottle of tequila, shoves the phone bill to Peter which showed a number he frequently called. Also, when Jackie called the number about the bra, a woman replies and tells her that her boyfriend mistakenly took it. With that, Jackie throws Peter out of the apartment.
Hours later, Dan Conner (John Goodman) and Darlene find Jackie in a Chinese restaurant where she and Roseanne used to work. There, she serves the customers, drunk and disorderly. Upon seeing Dan and Darlene, Jackie invites them to sit down and talk with her. Dan and Darlene try to convince her to leave, but Jackie runs. Eventually, Jackie breaks down and cries as Dan and Darlene lead her out of the restaurant.
Strangers Falling in Love
Thanks to his new Drywalling job with Dan, Emilio can now provide greater support to Becky and her pregnancy. Emilio and Dan went shopping for baby supplies at the mall. Also, Emilio gives Becky some of the money, enabling her to repay what she took from the house. Later that day, Emilio and Becky went back to buy a stroller. As they rested at a park, they have a heart to heart talk which eventually led to sharing a kiss. Unfortunately, something wrong comes up the next day. Immigration Officers did a random check at the restaurant, catching Emilio. Through the phone, Emilio relays what happened to Becky, Darlene, and Dan. Still, he swore that he would find a way to make it back to Becky and the baby.
To Move or Not To Move
Darlene knew that she had to ask everyone about moving to Chicago, so she does this one by one. At first, Becky plays around with her words, but she is all up for Darlene moving to Chicago. When it was Dan’s turn, he gives her his blessing. Finally, it was time to tell Mark Conner-Healy (Ames McNamara) and Harris Conner-Healy (Emma Kenney) the good news which was well received. Suddenly, David arrives at the Conner home, bringing startling news. David broke up with Blue (Juliette Lewis) and now wants to get back together with Darlene. Thanks to Jackie’s incident at the Chinese restaurant, Darlene had a reason to leave the conversation. However, it was still on her mind. When the time came to decide finally, Darlene tells Ben that she cannot go yet, because of her Dad who would have trouble adjusting. While this decision to stay is not indefinite, it implies that there is hope for her relationship with David.
‘The Conners’ Season Finale ‘We Continue to Truck’ Final Verdict
The writers gave everything that they got to the season finale. The revival of the previous show ended in similar terms, but this finale gave much heavy emotion. Adding two new characters will undoubtedly change how the second season will play out. Overall, the first season of this spinoff was well done. It is the best example of reinventing well-loved characters without having to change who they are.
