After focusing on one character’s struggle with grief, The Conners brings us to the life of the Conner sisters. The least likely person to come up with a surprise makes an announcement. Meanwhile, the other finds a job and potentially a new partner, perhaps without even realizing.
In this week’s episode of The Conners, Becky Conner (Lecy Goranson) shocks everyone as she announces her pregnancy. Meanwhile, Darlene Conner’s (Sara Gilbert) breakup with Neil (Justin Long) leads to her search for a job. Luckily, she finds a job offer within Lanford.
Not Hungover
When Dan Conner (John Goodman) notices Becky’s strange behavior while they ate at the restaurant, he suspects that she is hungover. However, when Becky comes home from her shift, she shocks everyone by telling them that she is pregnant. While this may be good news, this has some drawbacks, such as Dan firing her from his drywalling team.
Luckily, Jackie Harris (Laurie Metcalf) comes to Becky’s rescue, helping her identify the father. When they find the father, Jackie learns that he cannot speak English well, since he migrated from Mexico. Because of this, Jackie offers to help him learn English since he eagerly wants to be involved in raising the baby.
Dominance
Darlene and Neil’s romance does not last long, especially since both of them realize that they are still hooked on their exes. While this may sound sad, Darlene completely forgets about it when Dan shows her a job opportunity in one of Lanford’s local magazines. Without hesitation, Darlene applies for the job almost immediately.
Darlene finally meets her match: Ben (Jay R. Ferguson), her new boss. Not only did ben continually reject her suggestions, but he also does not submit to Darlene’s insisting on eating shrimps, unlike Neil. However, his does not affect their work ethic, and they do get along quite well.
‘The Conners’ Season 1, Episode 5 ‘Miracles’ Final Verdict
The show seems to have a new recurring pattern: focusing on its different characters, hence the show’s title. This season gave a lot of character development. While Justin Long’s appearance here was short-lived, it was a necessary element in adding color to Sara Gilbert’s Darlene. Hopefully, the next episode would center on the Second Generation Conners.
The Conners returns on Tuesday, November 27th with ‘One Flew Over the Conners’ Nest’ at 8/9c on ABC.
