Weeks after The Conners finally deal with their grief, their daily lives continue. People come and go. That is one of life’s harshest realities. While divorce is a reasonable course of action at times, it can still be tricky. One of our main characters finds this out while struggling with the demands of life as a parent, as well as life as an individual.
In this week’s episode of The Conners, Darlene Conner (Sara Gilbert) meets David Healy’s (Johnny Galecki) new girlfriend, Blue (Juliette Lewis). As Darlene and David struggle with this new setup, Dan Conner (John Goodman) gives Becky Conner (Lecy Goranson) a chance to work with him in his construction firm.
Parenting
When Becky overhears Dan and DJ (Michael Fishman) talk about Dan’s need for one more person for his construction job, she offers to work for him. Dan agrees, but on Becky’s first day, she provides more trouble than help. Becky was drinking on site; a habit she developed ever since she started waitressing. The next day, Dan gives Becky a six week period to control her drinking habits. If not, Dan would have to fire her.
When David shows up to a Parent-Teacher conference with his new girlfriend, Blue, Darlene immediately dislikes Blue. Also, David suddenly decided to have Mark Conner-Healy (Ames McNamara) and Harris Conner-Healy (Emma Kenney) over at his place. During the kids’ visit, David suddenly goes to Darlene’s house, bearing news about Harris and her boyfriend having sex. Because of this, Darlene angrily went to Blue’s apartment, arguing with her before taking her kids home.
Relationship Status
During her kids’ absence, Darlene decides to have a drink with Becky and Jackie (Laurie Metcalf). The trio decides to have a drinking game to encourage Darlene to start going out. Suddenly, a man approaches Darlene. After some small talk, Darlene eventually goes out with him. A night later, Darlene and David decide to have a divorce, since David seems to be sure with his relationship with Blue. Moments later, the man Darlene met at the bar, Neil (Justin Long), sends Darlene a text. Neil asked Darlene out on a second date. After this, David left Darlene silently.
‘The Conners’ Season 1, Episode 2 ‘Tangled Up in Blue’ Final Verdict
This episode captures the vibes that Roseanne had. It has its fair share of comedy as well as light drama. Also, the show successfully makes the concept of centering on the family members’ lives work. Giving The Conners a change of focus added more variety to the show, which is a very welcome and exciting change. This second episode did not lose touch with the viewers.
The Conners returns on Tuesday, October 30th with ‘There Won’t be Blood’ at 8/9c on ABC.
