THE BLACKLIST: Scoop on the 2 Hour Season 6 Premiere

The Blacklist is officially back, with 2 new back to back episodes airing over Jan. 3 and Jan. 4, 2019.

This double episode storyline, guest starring Christopher Lambert as a dangerous new foe, not only offers fans more of what they’ve come to expect from this long-running crime drama, but also sets the tone for the season ahead via several bold plot developments.

When we last checked in on Red (James Spader), Liz (Megan Boone), and the Task Force, Liz had finally made the discovery that the bag of bones she and husband Tom (Ryan Eggold) had been chasing for much of the season belonged to none other than Raymond Reddington himself. Of course, this posed the question — if Red is dead, then who is the man posing not only as the Concierge of Crime for the last 30 years, but as Liz’s devoted father?

As season 6 opens, Liz and half sister Jennifer Reddington (Fiona Dourif) revisit their past as they come together to solve the mystery surrounding the night of the fire, the death of the real Raymond Reddington, Red’s true identity, and their shared parentage.

As they dig deeper Jennifer becomes more determined to get at the truth. However Liz finds herself torn between the relationship she’s developed with the man assumed to be her father and her desire to get to the bottom of years of secrets and lies.

We’ve seen both episodes a little early, thanks to our friends at NBC, and have some teasers to share with you below. As always, we make it a point never to divulge major plot point or character reveals that would spoil your enjoyment of the premiere. That said, one man’s gentle teaser is another’s great big flaming spoiler, so we urge you to proceed with a modicum of caution anyway. If you would like to learn more about our strict Spoiler Policy you can do so through the link in this sentence.

If you would like to keep up to date with weekly Blacklist episode synopses and official photo galleries, you can find everything you need in our Season 6 Episode Guide.

We’ve updated our article to include the latest promo trailer, which is spoilery in content. FYI.

Still Got It

The season 6 premiere opens on a whimsical note (one of a couple of lighthearted moments in what could otherwise be considered a paranoia-fuelled 2 hour trip), with Red contemplating his upcoming 60th birthday.

Finding himself the unwitting victim of a crime in progress, Red does what Red does best, making good on his escape, and proving to the audience that while he may be almost 60, he’s still “definitely got it.”

The scene is a delight from start to end, and a call back to the show’s 100th bank heist theme.
