New rumors suggest that if all things go according to Warner Bros.’ plan, Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” will begin its production summer of 2018. Ben Affleck’s take on The Dark Knight has been well-received by fans and critics, and we’ve already seen two appearances from him. And as it is clear that the studio is moving forward with its future slate of DC Extended Universe films all the way until 2020, it’s also confirmed that a solo film for “The Batman” will push through.
Following the recent director shakeup, details about the solo Batman movie has continued to be an unknown film entry for the DCEU. Its future and narrative uncertain as well. The film was supposed to start its production this year, but that was when was helming it. And now that Reeves is taking over, next summer seems to be the target date.
Production date for ‘The Batman’ still uncertain despite rumors
Umberto Gonzales from The Wrap gave a possible update on “The Batman’s” production through a live Periscope session. As the Q&A went on, Gonzalez revealed that the studio plans to start production on the movie sometime during summer 2018. However, Gonzalez concludes by saying that it will only happen “if everything falls into place,” meaning the date isn’t set in stone yet.
This rumor also comes along with the recent status of the script. Affleck and Warner Bros. have worked on the initial treatment for “The Batman,” but ever since Reeves stepped in, he’s been busy writing his own story for two months in. The initial story by Affleck seemed to have been the one that the studio wanted to go for—but in light of the director change and script revisions, nothing is known so far.
With the rumored summer 2018 production date, this gives Reeves more time to complete his script before any roles are even cast. It’s unknown as to who the villain for “The Batman” would be nor how Reeves’ take will be executed. What we do know is that the director is looking to have a more comic-centered take on the character, featuring the detective side of the Dark Knight.
