The Batman is coming. While production for the film is underway in London, director Matt Reeves finally gave fans a sneak peek at what Robert Pattinson could look like as the Dark Knight.
The reveal was posted on Vimeo (seen below) and teases nothing but the awkward albeit interesting Bat symbol and batsuit armor donned by the actor. It’s an ominous red and black 45-second video that appeases the anticipation for The Lighthouse actor as the new Batman following Ben Affleck. And if you ask us, that suit does look like it’s ripped right from the Arkham video games. At least we get to have that despite WB Games keeping mum about the followup to Arkham Knight, right?
It’s been an interesting production for The Batman as Reeves puts the pieces of the movie together. Various set leaks teased Pattinson adopting the Greg Capullo comic book Batman version where he sports an arsenal of survival gear with a motorcycle to complete the look. Colin Farrell was also seen in some photos, initially speculated to play the Penguin and was later confirmed for the role by Reeves on Twitter.
With Reeves at the helm, it looks like the Planet of the Apes director is keen on showing a completely fresh take on the Dark Knight through an incredibly distinct cast. Aside from Pattinson playing Bruce Wayne/Batman, a slew of amazing actors join him in the noir-ish Bat movie—Zoë Kravitz is set to play Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano among the trio of villains as Edward Nashton/Ed Nygma, AKA The Riddler, and Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin. Meanwhile, the good guy team is comprised of Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Jeffrey Wright as well-known Batman ally Jim Gordon (he’s still a detective at this point). Other actors joining the movie are Peter Saarsgard playing District Attorney Gil Colson, John Turturro as mobster Carmine Falcone, Alex Ferns as GCPD Commissioner Pete Savage, Jayme Lawson as Bella Réal, and Con O’Neill in an undisclosed role.
The Batman began production in late January and is slated for release on June 25, 2021.
