The Bachelorette: 'The Men Tell All' Special Addresses Racism

The Bachelorette’s Rachel Lindsay faced nearly two-dozen of her eliminated ex-boyfriends in “The Men Tell All.” The reunion in the past few seasons focused on the heartache and sweet moments of each of the eliminated contestants.

But the tell all took a more serious note, addressing the racist fueled drama featured in the season.

The Bachelorette Season 13 Misstep On Casting

Lindsay became the series’ first black lead in 33 combined seasons of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette.” ABC wanted to diversify its popular reality show but missed its mark. When the producers entered Lee into the pool of contestants vying for Lindsay’s heart.

“The Bachelorette’s” producers, who usually run a background check on their contestants before putting them on live television have suggested they were ignorant of Lee’s posts prior to the show.

His tweets prior to the show were about his views on Islam and comparing Hillary Clinton to O.J Simpson. Chris Harrison, the host of both the Bachelor and the Bachelorette, refreshed everyone’s memory reading some of Lee’s racist and misogynistic tweets.

The Bachelorette Men Tell All Spins The Narrative On Racism

“The Men Tell All” had race-fueled conversations focusing on Garett Lee. Lee had a history of racist and misogynistic tweets before joining the 13th season of The Bachelorette.  He was forced to address his behavior on live television.

His former housemates called out Lee for bullying other contestants on the grounds of racist and stereotypical remarks.  With Lindsay offering Lee lessons on Black History and Women’s Rights.

During “The Men Tell All” former contestant  Josiah Graham asked Lee directly about joining the show with an African-American lead. With Harisson confronting Lee if he was aware of his racist tweets.

Lee was put on the spot gave a rather confusing answer but opt to listen to his former housemates as they called him out for his behavior. This led to Lee apologizing on live television denouncing his racist remarks.

With the annual “Tell All” special choosing to focus on race over heartache, last Monday turned racism into entertainment and providing a dialogue on a very sensitive topic.
