As odd as it is, the spooky, kooky, creepy crew of the Addams family will be bathing in the sun in New Jersey as shown by The Addams Family full animated trailer. And they’re making the spooky a little bit more delightful than we ever expected.
Though the original satirical comics of Charles Addams came out in the 1930s, The Addams Family really didn’t hit the spotlight until the 60s with the live-action TV series. Then, the family met another bout of success in the 90s big screen with Barry Sonnenfeld’s The Addams Family. This film gave Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd, and Raul Julia some of their most iconic roles. Now, Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac are taking on the torch for the one and only power couple Morticia and Gomez Adams. Chloe Moretz and Finn Wolfhard are joining them as the Addams children Wednesday and Pugsley. Nick Kroll will be voicing Uncle Fester while Better Midler will be voicing Grandmama.
The Addams Family vs New Jersey
What’s notable about the new The Addams Family animated trailer is its likeness to the comics. But more than that, it’s the cast who are truly bringing the iconic family back to life. Theron’s posh and drawling accent is just the Morticia we were all waiting to hear. And Isaac is the perfect compliment to her. However, it was really weird to hear Gomez giddy and preppy saying “This is going to be lit.”
The whole charade of outdated puns and jokes is one thing we really weren’t expecting. But, seeing that it’s predominantly a kids movie, it’s a little understandable. Another new thing to The Addams Family narrative is Allison Janney’s Margaux Needler who’ll be the main antagonist of the film. Being the little perfect hometown TV reality host she is, she’s not quite charmed by the Addams’ antiques. And she’s hell-bent on rallying the town to kick the family out to keep her ideal New Jersey town setting. However, in the trailer, it seems that Needler will be facing more than she can handle. What do you expect of the Addams? Another pleasant surprise the trailer brought out was Snoop Dog’s Cousin It who was quite the show-stealer.
Though The Addams Family trailer provides a delightful peek into a new Addams family, it doesn’t quite have the same appeal that its predecessors had. It might be trying a little too hard at the “hip” jokes and fading a little in terms of its satirical quality. Maybe it’s perfect for the new generation of viewers though. However, nothing will be set in stone until we all lay our eyes on the film itself. With a cast like that, there might be some moments to live for after all.
The Addams Family premieres October 11, 2019.
