Tested: Adam Savage Delves Into the 'Fighting' Vader Suit from Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi may have come out in the middle of the year, but Adam Savage’s Tested just released a new video giving some cool insight on the series’ version of Darth Vader. The show actually had to build the first ever ‘fighting’ Vader suit, and we have a new video looking to how it was constructed.

Watch this:

Here’s the official description:

Adam visits the workshop and studios of FBFX, the specialty costume makers behind some of our favorite film and television spacesuits and superhero costumes! The team at FBFX were responsible for creating Darth Vader’s iconic costume for the recent Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi series, including the battle-damaged Darth Vader helmet. Adam examines these incredible pieces and learns about the process and challenges in creating them for the show!

Though the Vader suit was iconic, the costume was notoriously uncomfortable, and that’s why Vader fights in such a clunky way in all of the films. With Kenobi though, they wanted to give him that more dynamic fight scene from the prequels, that’s why they constructed a suit that fits better together, and allows for the actor to move in it while giving them vision.

The video gives a lot of history with the Vader suit, and even reveals some details on the costume that longtime fans haven’t been able to point out before. I was actually surprised to find out there were different shades of black on Vader’s face that even professional props masters weren’t aware of until they were tasked to make a new outfit for the series.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is currently streaming on Disney+.
