Teaser for Disney’s ‘Wish’ Introduces a New Animation Style

Ever since Disney’s Tangled, Disney animated films have always stuck to a very specific look and style; however, it looks like the studio is going for something different and more stylized with the upcoming movie Wish. A new teaser just dropped for the film, and we have a look at new protagonist Asha.

Check this out:

Here’s the synopsis for Wish:

In “Wish,” Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force—a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe—the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico—to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.

The role of Asha is played by Ariana DeBose, who had turned everyone’s heads when she played Anita in Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story. The villain Magnifico is played by Chris Pine (Star Trek, Wonder Woman) and the goat Valentino is voiced by Disney animation’s lucky charm Alan Tudyk.

I’ll admit, the animation style does look different, but a lot of it still feels pretty close to the usual Disney animation. If anything, animated films like Into the Spider-Verse and The Mitchells vs. The Machines are the ones that really lean in on the style of their films, but maybe Disney is still testing the waters with this movie.

Catch Wish when it comes to cinemas on Nov. 22.
