The grownup cast for director Andy Muschietti’s much-awaited sequel to the story of The Loser’s Club is a few steps closer to becoming complete. Variety reports that Down Here and Altered Carbon actor Teach Grant officially joins the cast for It: Chapter Two as the adult version of Nicholas Hamilton’s Henry Bowers.
In the previous It movie, Henry was the bully that was responsible for tormenting most of the members of The Loser’s Club, most especially Ben Hanscom (Jeremy Ray Taylor). He was also one of the ones who saw apparitions of Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise, giving Henry the evil drive to murder his father and go after the Losers in the sewers. Although it was unclear if Henry lived after Mike Hanlon (Chosen Jacobs) threw him off the well during a brawl, Grant’s casting confirms that Henry did survive after all.
Jess Weixler also joins Grant as his wife. Weixler and Grant are one of the most recent additions to It: Chapter Two following Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, and Bill Hader who are set to play Beverly Marsh, Bill Denbrough, and Eddie Kasprak respectively.
The first It movie followed the story of Derry, Maine in the 50’s where the Loser’s Club faced the threat of Pennywise the alien clown. Together, the kids were able to defeat him, but it doesn’t end there. It: Chapter Two will see Pennywise resurfacing from the sewers and devouring children again. In the book, Mike Hanlon was the only one from the original group of kids who didn’t leave their town. When Pennywise’s threat returns, he rounds up the gang to finally put an end to the clown’s evil reign once and for all.
It: Chapter Two will also adopt one of the most controversial and shocking scenes in the book. According to CinemaBlend, Xavier Dolan has also been cast to give life to Adrian Mellon. In the book, Adrian was in a relationship with an older man named Don Hagarty. The couple attended the Derry fair but were assaulted by a group of homophobic teenagers. Adrian was thrown off the bridge, near the river that leads to The Barrens, where Pennywise lives—then the Clown kills Adrian.
Muschietti returns in the director’s chair, with a script penned by Gary Dauberman.
It: Chapter Two is slated for release on September 6, 2019.
