It was 2017 when we last saw Taron Egerton’s Eggsy in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and after the underwhelming performance of The King’s Man in 2021, some fans thought that this would be the end of the franchise. Egerton, however, confirms he’s got one more Eggsy performance in him.
Talking to Collider, Egerton confirms that director Matthew Vaughn was still pretty much planning to make a third Kingsman film. Egerton explains:
“[Matthew Vaughn] has every intention of making it, and I have every intention of playing Eggsy one more time… That was always what I thought I was committed to doing. It’s the role that made my name, so I suppose, in a way, I just want it to be absolutely right if we do it again, and I want the story to do justice to the part that really changed my life.”
We don’t really know what’s next for Eggsy, but it’s possible the third movie could pick up with the story of The King’s Man which introduces us to a secret cult run by someone called The Shepard who has ties to powerful people in history, like Adolf Hitler. It’s unclear if the films are going to pull on that thread moving forward, but with Daniel Craig ending his Bond run, it would be nice if we also got a bookend for Eggsy.
Egerton continues, “I want it to be a fitting ending… And I would, obviously, really hope that Colin [Firth] would come back for at least a part of it, and who knows? We’ll have to see, but we are planning to talk about it, actually, the next time we see one another, so who knows? Watch this space. But, you know, he’s certainly not backing off the idea.”
Kingsman 3 has not been officially announced, but you can check out Egerton in the Vaughn-produced Tetris now streaming on Apple TV+.
