Cowboy Bebop may have crashed and burned, but Netflix is pushing forward with its anime live-action adaptations. Next on the slate is One Piece from Eiichiro Oda, and though we haven’t gotten a teaser yet, we do have a set sneak peek of the giant ships and locations of the series.
Check it:
Get a first look at the sets of One Piece. Actor Iñaki Godoy and showrunners Steven Maeda and Matt Owens introduce a behind the scenes glimpse into bringing the world of One Piece to life.
While the world of One Piece is admittedly more animated than other properties, it looks like the series is trying to give the show a more realistic approach; that being said, the series looks to be keeping some of the more cartoonish elements of the source material.
Though we do have a look at the sets, I’m curious about the characters that are going to be populating them. With Luffy and his gang having very animated powers, I wonder how the series is going to make them look in live-action. Even the Ms. Marvel show on Disney+ decided to change Kamala’s stretchy powers to something closer to Green Lantern.
So far, things are looking good for the series, and while not everyone has the time to jump in on One Piece’s decades-running story, I think this live-action show could be a good jumping-off point for the uninitiated.
No release date has been announced for One Piece, but hopefully the series would hit Netflix sometime in 2023.
