We don’t know when the next Mad Max movie is going to come out, but we are returning to George Miller’s Wasteland with the spinoff Furiosa starring Anya Taylor-Joy. The film is set to come out sometime in 2024, but WB has given us a synopsis teasing the character’s origin.
Read this (via CBR):
As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
Besides Taylor-Joy who will be taking on the role of a young Furiosa, the movie has also cast Chris Hemsworth as the primary antagonist—who we assume is going to be Dementus. With Hugh Keays-Bryne having died in 2020, it’s very likely that they would have someone else take on the role of Immortan Joe.
Based on the synopsis, there’re actually a lot of blanks to fill in when it comes to Furiosa’s story. When we meet her, she is already working for Joe and is in charge of driving his War Rig. My guess is we’re going to be seeing young Furiosa do a lot of stunt driving—eventually earning the trust of Immortan Joe; maybe we can even see her meeting his wives. Then again, that’s just speculation on my part.
Furiosa is currently slated for a release on May 24, 2024.
