Amazon Prime Video pretty much has their own superhero series with The Boys, but it looks like they’re going the movie route with veteran action star Sylvester Stallone.
Just in, watch the official trailer for Samaritan:
Here’s the plot synopsis:
Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon “Wanna” Walton) suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith (Sylvester Stallone) is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin
Besides Stallone who is no doubt the biggest name in this film, the movie also has Javon Walton who is best known for his role as Ashtray in HBO’s Euphoria. Spider-Man fans will also recognize Peter Parker’s teacher Martin Starr; there’s also Pilou Asbæk, who played Euron Greyjoy in the final seasons of Game of Thrones.
We’ve all seen the retired superhero trope being pushed back into heroics by the hopeful kid, but hopefully Samaritan has something different to say—especially with the superhero market being what it is now.
Samaritan premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Aug. 26.
